The 4 Learning Stages - And How They Affect YOU…

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Breaking down the different stages of learning can be really helpful when we’re trying to work out where we are and how far we can go. It can be quite scary to look at the big goal - perhaps professional web designer with a large portfolio of clients who rely on our expertise, when it’s as much as we can do to remember the names of the software we’ll be using to learn!

We’re going to look at four levels of understanding. Whenever we take on something new, we all go through these stages, and recognising them helps us to measure ourselves and our progress.

Unconscious Incompetent, Conscious Incompetent, Conscious Competent, Unconscious Competent.

Career changers often start at stage one - Unconscious Incompetent. This is when we know we want to change, but we don’t yet know what we don’t know, what we need to know, how to learn it or where it might lead us! Sounds pretty desperate, but the important thing is knowing we want to change - everything else can be taught.

The essential thing is to get advice. By talking things through with an experienced advisor, the stage one person can discover what’s involved in the process; find out where they want to go and what they need to learn.

Conscious Incompetent - this is stage two. Now we’re probably at the start of our training course. Having been taught the various options, we’ve chosen our career path, and we know what we have to learn - or to put it another way, we’re conscious of what we don’t yet know, or what incompetences we currently have.

Understanding this is important, to have the wisdom of knowing where we are. Grasping conscious incompetence means that we don’t get quite so frustrated in the early stages of our learning - it’s possible we’re not very good at it (especially if it’s been a while since we were at school…) but we know we’ll get better. Modern interactive learning accelerates this process, so we won’t be at this stage for long.

Stage three is Conscious Competent. We’re in the flow of the learning environment, and are picking things up much faster. We still have to consciously think about what we’re doing all the time, but we’re able to learn competently. We’ll probably complete our studies and successfully pass our exams whilst in this learning stage, which is likely to also extend into our working life too.

Remember when we learned to drive a car? We’d got to conscious competency by test time - good enough to pass the exam but still consciously aware of every manoeuvre. It wasn’t until we gained more experience to consolidate the knowledge that we moved into stage four.

In the computer world, before we become Unconsciously Competent we’ll most likely be several years into our working experience. At that stage, we know what we need to know, and no longer have to consciously think about why we do something. Although school’s never out for the pro, (and the joy in IT is there’s always more to learn) getting to this lofty height of understanding makes all the hard work worth it.

The Personal Learning Curve

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

I recall when I used to sit at the back of the class thinking, “Please don’t let the teacher ask me to answer that last question!” It wasn’t because I couldn’t answer it, or at least have a go at answering it. But just like going on a TV quiz show, answering in front of an audience and on-time isn’t always as easy as it seems.

This didn’t mean I was unable to learn the subject matter - but simply that I couldn’t learn it in that environment.

With this in mind, I’m a great believer in and supporter of the new wave of training plans being offered, as they clearly endorse new ways of learning.

One of my favourite examples of this is a strategy being employed within the IT industry. Not surprisingly, it’s using the latest technological tools to teach comparatively complex skills and techniques, with a great level of success.

Offering the option of multimedia and on-line tutorials, presented by experts in their respective field, gives quality access to a huge array of learning material - whenever and wherever the student wants it. Real round the clock learning and the true option to choose where to study; all of which enhances the learning experience and consequently improves learning success.

A world away from the sterile, intimidating experience of the classroom of youth.

There are clearly other benefits: The ability to carry on study when the student may not feel wholly well, or during incapacitation. Training schemes are available to all, including those with disabilities who find it difficult to study at a centralised centre. The ability to carry on studying regardless of the weather outside, and the ability to study in the security of one’s own home.

There are other additional advantages. These include less cost and ‘down-time’; in terms of the time it takes to travel to the teaching centre and back, the issue of having to be there at a specific time, and the cost of travel to and from the centre. This all supports the strategy of ’smart study’ - studying in a cost effective manner, when you want, what you want, and where it suits you best.

Training by his method is not hampered by the slow upgrades or revisions of reading material and books. Students have an edge over their counterparts, as they are more likely to be studying the latest concepts and skills available.

That’s not to say you’re forced to study in isolation though. This new training philosophy recognises that some people need to have human communication built into their study program. To this end, a truly effective plan includes ‘interactive’ on-line support with real people. Many students also set up their own study-buddy network, where they can exchange their ideas in a relaxed environment and discuss the concepts they’re studying.

Incredible developments have occurred in the field of IT and educational strategies. It seems a natural progression that these two disciplines have come together for the advantage of the student, and created a training environment where the student is more in-control. This makes it more pleasurable overall, and is surely one of the basic tenets of learning?

Positive Or Negative Focus

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Look at any Best Seller list in bookshops today, and it’ll be populated with autobiographies of the rich and famous. From glamour models to footballers to empire builders, they all have a different story to tell, but each has a common thread - they overcame adversity by focusing on the positives.

That’s the way of the world; life’s achievers allow positive reasons why ‘they can’ to flood their consciousness, and drown out negative reasons why they can’t.

For the trainee, this attitude to studying is vital. To complete a training program successfully, the biggest tool in a student’s workbox is a positive mindset. An optimistic outlook brings about all sorts of circumstances, possibilities, answers and opportunities to achieve. On the other hand, a negative outlook blocks creativity and numbs our learning receptors.

This is down to our Reticular Activation System - an automatic mechanism in our brain that tells us what to focus on. Throughout our lives, we’ve experienced many things that no longer stay in the forefront of our minds - the bulk of what we’ve learned moves from our conscious mind to our sub-conscious mind, a kind of store cupboard stocked up with all our past knowledge and beliefs.

When we attempt to do something consciously, our Reticular Activation System (RAS) will go through our sub-conscious mind for any associated information it holds, and bring it into focus. As we’re walking down a road, we’re made aware only of things that are relevant to us - anything else is just background noise.

This means that if our conscious mind has been regularly sending messages that are upbeat and positive to our sub-conscious mind, then that’s what it will transfer back. But if our sub-conscious has been given loads of downbeat and defeatist messages, then that’s equally what will be sent back.

It seems that achievers are able to manipulate the messages filtered through to their sub-conscious minds by deliberately programming their RAS and choosing the exact messages the conscious mind sends. This makes it an essential tool for achieving goals, as the sub-conscious mind can’t distinguish between real or imaginary events.

In other words, as it believes what it’s told, we need to create a very specific picture of our goal in our conscious mind. The RAS will then pass this on to our subconscious - which will then help us achieve the goal. It does this by bringing to our attention all the relevant information which otherwise might have remained as ‘background noise’.

The writer Napoleon Hill said that we can achieve any realistic goal if we keep focusing on that goal, and stop dwelling on any negative thoughts about it. Obviously, if we keep thinking that we can’t hit a goal, our subconscious will help us not to achieve it.

Important Facts About Excellent Mining Equipment

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Over the past few years mining equipment and technology has come a long ways. These days it’s more important than ever to have quality equipment that lasts and improves productivity. Because mining companies are watching their expenditures more than ever they need to rely upon the best equipment that has true value. One mining equipment company, Brady mining company, has equipment that is of impeccable quality combined with cutting-edge technology.

One area of expertise is the manufacturing of their drilling mining equipment. Their ceramic dust hogs are among the best ever manufactured. Because of their quality they are able to operate for longer periods of time, longer than that of other brands of like tools. And that means less downtime and more work time - and that equals money in the bank. Their wet drill bits have a unique self-sharpening characteristic that literally blows the competition away.

Brady Mining has also developed top of the line reamers and bits seats which outlast and perform the competition. Their innovative technology allows for less bolt time associated with these products. And since less downtime equals saved time and money, any successful mining outfit will want these reamers and bits seats in their mining equipment arsenal.

They also specialize in the production of couplers and other specialty tooling. They excel in this area because they offer customers user-friendly couplers and custom-designed tooling to suit the high demands of the mining work environment. Their products last as long as they do because of the exceptional high-grade steel and alloys they utilize. Essentially, this means their products last longer and out-perform similar regular steel products. This translates into less time spent solving equipment problems and changing tools and more time earning money for the company.

When it comes to mining equipment it is oftentimes better to buy quality products than cheaper products or imitations. A mining company makes money by the process of mining. If downtime and broken equipment interferes with a mining operation its overall profits will go down. Like in any other business a smooth running operation means more profits and happier owners.

Want to find high quality mining equipment? Visit Brady Mining to choose the best reamers and bit seats for your mining needs.

Discussing Microsoft MCSE Training Clarified

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Considering an MCSE? Then it’s likely that you’re probably in 1 of 2 situations: You’re currently an IT professional and you want to enhance your CV with the Microsoft qualification. On the other hand this might be your initial foray into the computer workplace, and your research tells you there is a great need for people with the right qualifications.

When looking into training providers, ensure that you steer clear of those that short-change you by not providing the latest level of Microsoft development. This is no use to the trainee because they’ll have been studying the wrong MCSE version which doesn’t correspond to the current exam syllabus, so it’s going to be hugely difficult for them to get qualified.

Avoid making a hasty decision when buying a course before having all your questions answered. Set your sights on finding a training provider who will ensure you are on a well matched program for your needs.

Your training program should always include the most up to date Microsoft (or relevant organisation’s) authorised exam preparation packages.

Don’t fall foul of depending on unofficial exam preparation systems. Their phraseology is sometimes startlingly different - and sometimes this can be a real headache when it comes to taking the real exam.

Ensure that you test your knowledge by doing tests and simulated exams to prepare you for taking the real thing.

Quite often, students have issues with one aspect of their training usually not even thought about: The breakdown of the course materials before being delivered to your home.

You may think it logical (with training often lasting 2 or 3 years for a full commercial certification,) for your typical trainer to courier one section at a time, as you complete each part. However:

Maybe the order of study insisted on by the company won’t suit you. And what if you don’t finish all the modules at the speed required?

An ideal situation would be to have all the training materials packed off to your home before you even start; the entire thing! This prevents any future issues from rising that will affect your capacity to get everything done.

Any advisor who doesn’t ask you a lot of questions - it’s more than likely they’re just trying to sell you something. If they push a particular product before understanding your background and current experience level, then you know it’s true.

Don’t forget, if you’ve had any relevant previous certification, then you may be able to begin at a different level to a trainee with no history to speak of.

Working through a basic PC skills module first can be the best way to get into your IT programme, but really depends on your level of familiarity with computers.

At the top of your shopping list for a training program should be proper direct-access 24×7 support from expert mentors and instructors. So many companies we come across only seem to want to help while they’re in the office (9am till 6pm, Monday till Friday usually) and nothing at the weekends.

Locate training schools where you can receive help at any time of the day or night (irrespective of whether it’s the wee hours on Sunday morning!) You’ll need 24×7 direct access to mentors and instructors, and not a call-centre that will take messages so you’re waiting for tutors to call you back at a convenient time for them.

Be on the lookout for training programs that have multiple support offices active in different time-zones. Every one of them needs to be seamlessly combined to offer a simple interface together with round-the-clock access, when you need it, with no fuss.

Never settle for less than you need and deserve. Online 24×7 support is the only viable option with computer-based courses. Perhaps you don’t intend to study during the evenings; but for the majority of us however, we’re out at work while the support is live.

How to Buy Diamonds

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Everybody likes diamonds and no one looks bad in diamonds, do they? It is not really within the remit of this article to propose whether diamonds are a first-class investment or not, but their supposed worth is enormous. Instead, I would like to discuss where the best place to buy a diamond is, because it is more importantant that you buy your diamond from a reputable merchant with a guarantee than that you believe you got a good deal on eBay by means of buying somebody’s granny’s engagement ring, which might not be authentic.

Consequently, before you commence browsing for diamonds, consider dealing with a bonded jeweller. Bonded jewellers sell bonded diamonds and there are not many bonded jewellers in the world. In fact, of the jewellers in the world, only about 5% of them are bonded.

Buying a bonded diamond will cost more than buying a non-bonded diamond, but when you consider what you get with the bonded alternative, you will see that it is well worth the additional expenditure.

First, bonded diamonds have a buy-back guarantee for the existence of the diamond. No matter how long you have had the diamond, you can take it back to the bonded jeweller and sell it back to him or her, for a 100% refund.

If a jeweller does not offer a 100% buy-back promise, for the life of the diamond, then you ought to take a nearer look at the diamond to see what is amiss with it. Just joking, thay will always offer you a 100% buy-back guarantee or tell you why not.

Bonded diamonds also have a breakage policy. If the stone breaks or chips, the bonded jeweller will replace it with a new one - one time. No jeweller would ever offer such a policy on any stone that was not 100% natural, so just the offer of such a policy should give you peace of mind concerning the quality of the diamond. Bonded diamonds are natural and untreated.

Bonded diamonds improve in value, with a fixed appreciation rate that is intended to keep up with inflation. This means that a diamond that is valued at a particular amount of money today will be worth more in the future, as the price of diamonds continues to rise. This normally does not relate to buy-backs, although. It typically applies to trade-ins.

On the other hand, by purchasing a bonded diamond, you are sheltered against the possibility of a market crash. If a market crash does happen, the value of diamonds will drop. However, the bonded jeweller promises to reimburse you the discrepancy between what the diamond is now worth and what you paid for it before the market fall.

It may be tricky to find a bonded jeweller in your locale, but if you can, this is who you want to deal with, as opposed to dealing with a non-bonded jeweller. Specifically inform the jeweller that you are only interested in bonded diamonds. You can find a bonded jeweller in your area by exploiting various online resources like Google or Yahoo, or by calling the local jewellery shops.

Choosing Computer Peripherals

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

When you’re buying a computer you must consider not merely the quality of the internal peripherals, but also the quality of the external ones that either come with it or are available for it to allow you to make the most of the entire multimedia experience.

Computer components, from printers to web cams, are an essential part of our computing lives and activities, if not the most important one, depending on our wants and requirements. When you are confronted with having to pick peripherals, think about a few aspects before making your purchase: functionality, price/quality combination and the purpose they will need to serve.

So, when purchasing a printer, you have to consider why you are buying it. For instance, if it is meant to be an office printer and it will be mostly used to print out contracts and documents, then the optimum choice is an all-in-one printer that can print, scan and double as a fax machine at the same time. If on the other hand you need a home printer generally to make copies of your digital photos then considering a colour printer is a necessity and maybe you should consider getting a laser one too.

The keyboard and the mouse are first in the computer-user affiliation and they also add a touch of individuality to your private computer. Browse for a complete set-up that may incorporate a mouse pad and endeavor to match them with the colour and shape of your computer case - even a clear computer case. These days, optical and wireless mice are the optimum choice, so buying a wireless multimedia keyboard would be a fit too.

Nowadays, clear computer cases are all the rage and they truly do give the impression of being very advanced, depending on how they are illuminated. These clear computer cases fit really well with a computer on which video games will be played a great deal. The clear computer case is usually made of acrylic and is completely see-through, meaning that all the inner components are able to be seen. The clear computer case is usually ‘themed’, that is it has a principal colour in the acrylic, most often red or blue. The case is then lit up by a series of theme-coloured LEDs which are triggered when particular actions occur (for instance, when the hard drive is spinning.

Communication with loved ones is frequently done over the Internet. So, why not render it just right by buying a web cam to permit real time interaction between friends and family? Furthermore, you will require a microphone to be able to hear and see your loved one at the same time and then you can natter as if he or she was in the room with you.

There are many kinds of computer peripherals on the market: external hard drives, loud speakers (from small to extremely big), real 5.1 systems, scanners, card readers for your digital camera and many more. All you have to do is make a list of the uses you need your PC for and then go shopping for the necessary peripherals for each of those uses. Whenever those requirements can be combined, as with the printer/scanner, you must try to do that to get around taking up a lot of space.

If you are looking for one of those great-looking clear computer cases, please go over to our web site right away at http://clearcomputercase.biz for more information.

UFC Ultimate Fighter

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

UFC Ultimate Fighter TUF is an extremely popular reality television series about mixed martial arts (MMA) competition; the show started in the U.S.A, and produced and televised by Spike TV and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) The show is currently on its tenth season . On the UFC Ultimate Fighter TUF show, professional MMA fighters that have yet to make a name for themselves are situated in a house outside of Las Vegas and compete against each other for the title of The Ultimate Fighter TUF, winning a six figure and a multi fight contract with the UFC. They spend weeks in the house with no outside contact of any sort.

In the first four seasons, the TUF contestants were selected in two weight classes. The fighters were also divided into two teams, irrespective of weight class, each team coached by a current UFC star. The teams then compete to determine which team would have the right to pair one of their own fighters against an opponent of their choice in the same weight class, the loser being eliminated from competition. At the end of a competition, the two remaining fighters of each weight class are placed in a single MMA fight, where the title of UFC Ultimate Fighter TUF is awarded to the winner. From season five to season seven, all fighters competed in the same weight class.

In the show they feature the daily preparations each fighter makes to train for the competition and the interactions they have with each other living under the same roof. White has been one of the main reasons the UFC’s success to the popularity of The Ultimate Fighter.

Did you know that with the exception of the season finales, fights on The Ultimate Fighter are sanctioned by the Nevada Athletic Commission as exhibition matches and do not count for or against a fighter’s professional record. This is done to keep the results from going public before the air date.

The winners of the first three seasons of The Ultimate Fighter TUF competition, and certain runners-up depending on their performance in their competition finals, receive the touted “six-figure” contract to fight in the UFC. These contracts are specifically three-year contracts with a guaranteed first year. Each year consists of three fights, the first year’s purse per fight consists of $12,000 guaranteed with a $12,000 win bonus (a maximum of $24,000 per fight), the second year’s purse per fight is $16,000 with a $16,000 win bonus (a maximum of $32,000 per fight) and the third year’s purse per fight is at $22,000 with a $22,000 win bonus (a maximum of $44,000 per fight). A TUF winner who goes 9-0 can earn $300,000 total on the contract, but only $150,000 is guaranteed for all three years if 9 fights are fought.

Those that have not won the competition can still fight in the UFC. Their contracts however are not the same as the six-figure deal above.

I am a huge UFC Ultimate Fighter TUF I have watched all 10 series so far. If you are also a UFC Ultimate Fighter TUF fan then check out ufcultimatefighter.com for MMA videos and UFC news.

Why You Should Use Google Adsense

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

In order to know why Adsense is essential for your content websites, you must first understand how it works.

The theory is really straightforward, if you ruminate about it. The publisher or the webmaster places a java script into a website. Each time the page is visited, the java script will pull adverts from the Adsense scheme. The adverts that are displayed should therefore be closely related to the subject matter on the web page serving the ad. If a visitor clicks on an advert, the webmaster serving the ad earns a portion of the money that the advertiser is paying Google for the click.

The search engine is the one handling all the tracking and payments, providing an easy way for webmasters to display content-sensitive and targeted ads without having the bother of finding advertisers, collecting money, and monitoring the clicks and statistics, which would be a time-consuming task in itself. It appears that there is never a dearth of advertisers in the scheme, from which the search engine draws the Adsense adverts. Furthermore, webmasters don’t have to be so concerned about the information the search engines are providing and can be more focused on making money from those search engines.

The first explanation why Adsense is essential for content sites is because it already has learned a lot about the requirements of publishers and webmasters. Its continuous advancement means the emergence of a more complex system that allows full advert customization. Webmasters are given the opportunity to select from a number of different styles of text advert formats to better match their website and fit their webpage layout.

The diverse types of formatting permit the site owner the prospect of more clicks-through from visitors who may or may not be conscious of what they are clicking on. This way the people behind Adsense, Google, will get their ads read and make sales in the process.

The second explanation is the capacity of the Adsense publishers to trace not only how their sites are progressing, but also the earnings based on the webmaster-defined channels. Recent enhancements in search engine technology gives webmasters the ability to check how their ads are doing using customizable reports that have the capacity to count page impressions, clicks and click-through rates. In this manner, webmasters and publishers can track individual ad formats, colors and pages within a website. Trends are also easily noticed.

You can assess the efficiency of the changes you have made quickly by use of these reports. That means you can sort out the contents that visitors are making the most clicks on. Ever-changing requirements can be met while generating cash for the webmasters and publishers. The more flexible schemes are also allowing webmasters to group web pages by URL, domain, advertisement sort or category, which will provide them an accurate insight on which pages, adverts and domains are performing the best.

The last and final reason is that advertisers have realized the advantages connected with having Google ads served on targeted websites. This increases the possibility that a web surfer will have an interest in their products or services. All because of the content and its constant upkeep

Adsense is all about related subject matter, the more targeted your subject matter is, the more targeted the search engines adverts will be. There are some web masters and publishers who are focused more on their site contents and how best to maintain them than the cash that the adverts will produce for them.

There was a time when people were not yet aware of the money to be achieved from advertisements. The cash generated only came into existence when the webmasters and publishers realized how they could make Adsense be the generator of ads and sales. In those days, content was the most important factor. It still is. With the attraction of funds, of course.
