You could, of course, use a netbook in these same circumstances, but due to the small keyboards and monitors, they can take a while to get used to. If you have some serious work to do (even if it is just work on your favorite social network) it can get really tedious on something so small.
Laptops don’t show any sign of slowing down their growth rate. As manufacturers continue to develop their technologies and prices continue to come down, more and more people will take advantage of the chance to stay both productive and mobile.
