Perhaps the most common computer term that is the object of some confusion is the word PC. In retrospect, PCs are the machines that are made up of hardware and software. In the beginning, personal computers were large and heavy machines that are placed on the floors of large rooms and are virtually immovable. These smaller machines are the laptop computers, notebooks and palm pilots that can easily fit into bags and be taken anywhere. Additionally, the term PC is also used to describe the other even more compact and capable machines that are being invented as we speak.
Another computer word that is causing confusion: servers. It is easy to see why this word brings a lot of confusion, since it has a lot of definitions. You have the file server, which is a computer that is attached to a network of other computers. The function of the file server is to make users of the other machines be able to access and store information, even if they are in different areas of the world.
On the other hand, network servers are machines that are designed to process and also to deliver information to the other connected computers through the use of a local network scheme or through the use of an internet connection. These network servers are also capable of dealing with the probable massive user load through its processing, memory and storage configurations. The web server and proxy server are common kinds of a network server.
