Road Dates

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

It’s that time of year, when love is in the air and you get that warm and cozy feeling inside, no, not Spring, but something much more sinister then that. We are talking about Valentine’s Day. That dreaded time of year when men must do things like pick out cards and buy flowers and singles, well, they just get the raw end of the deal all together. That being said, the first thing you need to do is get your car in order. Let’s take a look at some good romantic cars.

Are first choice for car romance would be the great, anamorphic, Volkswagon Beetle Herbie, aptly called The Love Bug. The original Love Bug movie was filmed by Disney in 1968 and has produced a total of four movies (one in 2005 with Lindsay Lohan) a made for TV movie and even its own TV show. In theory, Herbie was called the Love Bug because he actively conspired to bring the movies lead actor into a romance with the lead actress. Funny, right? However, we think it is also because America as a whole fell in love with this car as the Love Bug movie was a smash hit in the box office. Is a VW Beetle romantic? More like cute, but it could work under the right circumstances.

How about a truck for romance? Before you laugh think about it. First of all, it is pretty common for a girl to sit in the middle seat, right next to her special somebody, and leave the passenger seat open. Sweet isn’t it? But there is more. If you clear the beer cans out of the back you can use it for some creative dating. Pack a picnic, some camping gear and using the trucks off road capabilities, head off into the mountains for a getaway. Best of all, lay in the back of the bed at night and watch the shooting stars cross the sky. Laugh now, but she will love it.

Maybe you want something less country. How about a motorcycle? It has attitude and an element of danger, and let’s face it, girls love that stuff. Best of all, if you ride it together, she has to put her arms around you and hold you tight. Not a bad deal at all.

For you old school romantic types how about a classic car? Sure they are probably pricey or it will take a lot of fixing up, but a classic Ford or Chevy from the 50’s practically screams “date me, I’m chivalrous.” A vintage Chevy Bel Air or Ford Thunderbird has class and nostalgic romance all rolled into one. Drive to the beach, get a burger and shake and watch the sun set. There you go, the car can only get you started, now it’s up to you.

Aluminum Bike Trailers - The Reason Why They Are the Best Selection

Sunday, January 29th, 2012

If you’re considering getting a motorcycle trailer to tow behind your bike, it’s always wise to consider the length you want your motorcycle trailer to be compared to the bike you’ll be using to tow it. Considering it is such a high ticket price item you want to ensure it lasts, , and you should consider any climatic influences where you live. The material that the trailer is made out of can be affected by environmental conditions such as rain and salt air, and certain materials mark easier than others if you are doing a lot of off-road riding. Aluminum is always a great option due to it’s durability and toughness.

As mentioned, weight is a major factor in not only safety, but also to allow for more luggage weight. If all or your weight allowance goes to the trailer, then there is no weight left for your cargo!. Aluminum trailers are lighter, meaning they pull easier that other heavier materials, which results in lowering your fuel consumption. This makes them a better choice over heavier trailers such as steel ones.

Another essential benefit is that aluminum motorcycle trailers have a longer longevity against rust and other corrosion.

With a protected, fully welded cargo section and chassis, you’re ensuring that your trailer will remain water and dust proof, increasing it’s performance. When compared to other materials, aluminum is stronger than fiberglass and lighter than steel, giving it a good advantage over the competition. It’s lightweight and strength gives it a higher quality, and better value. Aluminum is definitely the most popular choice for many of today’s buyers for all of these reasons. .

Your budget will obviously determine you options and the choice of materials you have. Only your can determine what things are important to you but look for cost effective, durability and of course safety. .Whilst not as adaptable as fiberglass, aluminum still has some variety when it comes to style. The most common aluminum motorcycle trailer is the silver boxy looking trailer, though some manufacturers are being more creative to meet with the demand.. The choice in aluminum sheeting used for manufacture varies greatly, giving you the right look for your trailer depending on the needs you have for it. There are so many additional parts and accessories available for an aluminum trailer, whether it be for looks, safety or special requirements.. There is no doubt that aluminum motorcycle trailers are the best value around due to their lightweight nature, durability and longevity, options in design and cost effectiveness. Worth carefully considering if you are in the market for a motorcycle trailer.

Working on your motorcycle could get you sweaty, which is why you may want these. If you think motorcycles are fun, you should check out the http://www.110ccatv.net.

Collectors Pour into Arizona

Friday, January 27th, 2012

It’ s been a crazy four days of shopping, dreaming and drooling over hundreds of amazing antique cars, at Scottsdale Auto Auction. Sadly it is finally wrapping up but with some amazing results. Over 200,000 visitors filed through the various auction houses on just the first two days. Numbers for the weekend are still being added.

Bids were placed, collectors jockeyed and positioned against each other to see just who was willing to go the furthest for the prizes they coveted the most. If the economy is struggling, there was no sign of it this weekend, with a grand total of 182 million in sales with 2,100 cars sold. That is pretty impressive by any means, but just you wait until you see the breakdown.

Perennial auto auction power house Barrett Jackson proved their dominance once again by taking the top spot with 90.9 million in total sales and 1,291 vehicles sold. Taking their top spot was a 1948 Tucker Torpedo which went for a mere 2.915 million dollars. This automobile was an advanced automobile created by Preston Tucker and produced in 1948. Only 51 of them were ever made and today only 47 still exist. Because there are so few of them, it is incredibly rare for them to go to auction, although fetching such a record price might entice a few current owners to put theirs up for sale.

Additionally a beautiful 1947 Bentley Franay Mark VI Cabriolet went for $2.75 million. This classic car is often considered the height of Bentley’s creations, this model is by far the most successful and expensive car they have manufactured. To see one for sale is also a rarity. Other sales included Mercedes, Packard and Duesenbergs.

However, top honors went to the fine folks over at Gooding & Co. who auctioned off a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing for $4.620 million. They did well in other areas as well, selling a 1930 Duesenberg Model J Convertible Coupe for $2.64 million and a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT California Spider for $3.905 million. Gooding & Co. finished the event with $39.8 million in total sales of 116 lots, not bad either.

Russo & Steele, another large company, sold 401 lots for $18.3 million as well. Not as much money wise, but they had a lot more muscle cars that tended to go for less. While that may not sound like much compared to some of the others, they still sold several cars that reached the 5-7 hundred thousand dollar mark.

All in all it was a great auction that showed a 25 million dollar increase in sales from the year before. It is also a great start to the auction year and shows that despite everything, there is still a lot of interest in these gorgeous machines.

A Short History Of Hybrid Cars

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

The first difficulty with working out which was the first hybrid vehicle, is deciding what the term ‘hybrid vehicle’ means. For instance, a barge being pulled by a horse with the current of the canal could be construed as a hybrid vehicle. However, most people these days will agree that a true hybrid vehicle utilizes a ‘rechargeable energy storage system’ or an RESS.

For example, this could define a vehicle that uses one form of propulsion, such as an internal combustion engine as its main form of propulsion, whilst that engine recharges batteries that can also be used to run an electric engine.

I am certain that it will surprise 90% + of people to hear that the history of hybrid vehicles is almost as long as the history of automobiles themselves. Porsche is a famous make of expensive sports cars, but in 1898 Ferdinand Porsche, a young Czech student, designed the Loher-Porsche one-cylinder internal combustion engine.

However, this engine was utilized to drive an electric generator, the electricity from which was used to power electric motors which were affixed to all of the four wheels. The petrol engine was used only to generate electricity for the electric motors in this early case.

This early hybrid was exhibited at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900 and was capable of travelling at 35 mph (56 kph). In 1901, Porsche drove it himself to win the Exelberg Rally. After this they sold more than 300 units of their early hybrid car. Mass production had not been invented yet and rich people were still sceptical about the new, malodorous technology.

1959 was the next landmark in the history or hybrids because petrol was not expensive and few people, if any, foresaw the future for the world and the environment. Anyway, the car invented, the Henney Kilowatt used the early transistors or those days to regulate the flow of electricity. This was the real precursor to modern hybrid cars.

One of the inventors of the Henney Kilowatt was Victor Wauk and he was involved in the process of experimenting with electric cars in the Sixties and Seventies. Sometimes, he is called the Godfather of Hybrid Vehicles.

It is fairly remarkable, but the regenerative braking system used by modern hybrids to help recharge a hybrid’s batteries was invented in 1978 by the electrical engineer, David Arthurs..

It then took until president Bill Clinton took the initiative to instigate the Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles in 1993. It involved the Dept of Energy, Chrysler, ford, GM and one or two others. G. W. Bush replaced this program with his own FreedomCar Initiative in 2001.

This initiative was designed to finance extraordinarily risky or problematic projects for the development of hybrid cars. It has taken us over 100 years to rejuvenate the initial hybrid idea but we only did that because we were compelled to do it.

Tip-of-the-Iceberg Tips About Auto Shipping

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

When choosing your car, you probably fantasize about the heroic image you will project as you drive it away. Do not get carried away with fantasies when you need to select a company to transport that bat mobile. You need to use your most practical side here. You will also need to do a thorough research of various companies in the industry so you know something about what you are doing. You only need to look for the basic steps, the endless small bits of stuff like documentation and other paper work will just waste your time. The key basics which follow below will get your car safely from point A to point B.

Do not be in a hurry to settle immediately for one company. The best thing to do is to check out a number of them first and to compare their best offers. You do not have to be a clever businessman, but don’t be afraid to bargain, to imply that you have better offers elsewhere and to walk out of the office without committing to anything if their terms do not satisfy you. After all, this is not a toy truck we are talking about - shipping services are expensive, but most reliable companies always offer a price which it is possible to civilly haggle over.

If a company quotes only a firm price and will not budge even to offer you some perk or bonus, you don’t need them. They have lousy customer service and you can do better with another company.

Some companies will be very expensive and offer no more in the way of services than the average company. Some companies will be very expensive and have the reputation and track record to warrant the expense. Check out the companies on the internet, they will all be there. You can check the company’s history online as well as it’s financial stability. You can usually determine their attitude towards the customer by their website and even customer reviews. Don’t be afraid to contact any references that may be posted there. If you happen to have a company located near you (this is very rare) visit them and see how professionally they handle you.

Usually the companies which are only faking high standards to justify high prices will try to rush you into signing a contract. They get away with this by hiring clever salespeople. These people will not bargain or will do so reluctantly unless they have really astronomical prices, and they will be unable to prove any level of competence.

They will either spend little time trying to convince you, or they will start bargaining themselves, rather than offer you a range of professional options and ask you for your preferred ranges of price. A common strategy is to make you feel as if you were making a mistake by not choosing their services.

You can tell a lot about a company by how the manager treats you as a customer. If they don’t value you, they don’t value their own business reputation. They just want your money with no guarantee of delivery. Don’t give it to them.

Amazing Parade of Super Cars

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

Want to see some of the most expensive and exotic cars around? If you head to London during the summer months you will be sure to get a close look at some of the world’s most expensive super cars. Cars like Bentley and Rolls Royce are common sights. The cars are shipped over mostly from the UAE at a cost of around $15k each way. The owners like to bring their cars with them when they vacation.

All of the license plates are Arabic; Arab billionaires like to spend their summers’ in England in order to avoid the intense heat and fly their super cars over in private planes. As if an exotic car by itself were not eye catching enough, many of these hyper cars have been painted in bright colors for even more attention such as hot pink, baby blue and even pure chrome and gold. London has surpassed Monte Carlo and Monaco as the exotic car capital of the world. Even though these cars can easily reach speeds of over 200 mph, many end up being driven in first gear due to gridlock traffic.

Most of the drivers are polite but some rev their motors and speed which may aggravate residents. The foreign license plates make it rather difficult for the cops to issue tickets to drivers when they break traffic laws. Even royalty isn’t above the law in England; the royal Qatari family received fines. Both of their autos were clamped and ticketed for parking illegally in front of Harrod’s, an exclusive department store that the family owns.

So who do these cars belong to? Some are businessmen while others are members of various royal families. The majority of cars are from the UAE and a Qatar while a few are from other Middle Eastern countries including Iraq.

Understandably, some local residents are upset due to the fanfare and constant revving of the motors. These cars are loud and you can hear them cruise down the streets at all hours. Our used cars include the used subaru outback glendale at Galpin Subaru located in the city of Los Angeles

Auto Shipping Via Closed Container

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

Most experts in the field of auto shipping will have a preference for the open carrier method because of the ease of loading and unloading vehicles. Within the space of two hours, somewhere around 33 carriers can be loaded to maximum capacity. Contrast this with the closed container method where only one car may be loaded and lifted on to the carrier in the same time frame. The closed container operations require special heavy-duty equipment at both the loading and unloading sites. A standard container terminal is not equipped to deal with cars and a special area apart from the central terminal must be allocated for the process of loading and unloading as well as storage, including storage for the essential equipment. This separate area must be secured more thoroughly than the main terminal. The carriers themselves can handle roughly half the number of vehicles as an open carrier.

The safety of a car in a container depends primarily on how well it is secured inside and on how professionally the vehicle is handled by the special loading-unloading equipment. If the container is not tailor-made for car transportation or the specific car brand, the process of securing it inside is rather complicated. In any case, it takes a lot of special wedging, tying, and supporting to secure a car in a container. Damage may occur if in the initial process mistakes are made which may remain undiscovered until the car reaches it destination and is unloaded.

In the open carrier damage may occur because the car is more easily accessible by people intent on doing it harm. Some cars have even been known to arrive with bullet holes. The closed container, while not totally inaccessible is far more so than the open one.

Very long trains which are open carriers may run into difficulty when crossing foreign borders. Not every country has the technology to ship by this method and the documentation and bureaucratic policies of the different countries can easily disrupt a shipment. Sometimes when long trains cross borders after loading at a factory in a foreign territory, the crew may be required to unload and then reload the cargo into more apt carriers in the country on the other side of the border. This not only delays the time of delivery, but also further exposes the vehicle to possible damage.

Innovative technologies, such as Trans-Rack, may help solve such problems, but in some countries they are only now coming into use, while still not all major countries offer wide-spread closed container shipping.

What Trans-Rack does is enable the carrier to increase its load of vehicles within closed containers while reducing the cost of transportation by around 25%. It also offers safer loading and unloading to guard against damage to the vehicles. The cars utilizing the Trans-Rack system have a much greater chance of arriving intact and undamaged. Severe experiments have been undertaken which included dropping a loaded container from heights of 5 meters causing harm to the containers but not the interior cargo. Trans-Rack is much easier to load and unload, thereby less time is required in the process. A full container can be loaded in 30 minutes. The system also comes with standardized systems of securing the vehicles which not only makes them safer but helps keeps the cost of transportation down.

Choosing a Quality Car Shipping Company

Monday, January 9th, 2012

If you’ve never shipped a vehicle before, the whole process can be a bit overwhelming at first. There are, however, a few things that you can look out for that may help you choose the best vehicle shipping company for your needs.

Perhaps the first thing to observe while doing your comparison shopping is how willing they are to show you their insurance policy and explain the coverage. If the company does not insure their cargo, or will not offer proof, scratch them off your list. They may seem upstanding but if they are not insured, they probably cannot afford it - a very bad sign. They could be embroiled in legal issues or just simply operate their business very badly and are looking for another sucker to fleece before they close their business. Don’t be that sucker. This could be just another example of someone who wanted to be an entrepreneur, but had no idea how to run a successful business.

Of course you want an honest company, but you also want one that is well-capitalized and can offer several insurance policies for you to select depending upon your requirements. Your personal insurance may not cover your possessions adequately when shipping your auto. Pick a policy from the shipping company that extends your personal policy to cover this excess. This type of policy is known as excess insurance. Primary insurance is also offered which offers coverage independently of any insurance you own. The company should give you a rundown of the types of damage and accidents common to the industry to aid you in your decision of the coverage you need appropriate to your situation.

Once you have these issues settles, you can move on to the next stage of preparing and submitting your car. There are several types of trucks and services. You have probably seen more open carriers than container carriers around. Open carriers are preferred by many customers because they are less expensive. In many cases the distances the cargo has to travel are particularly large, and if weather is fair open trucks often move out more quickly.

Generally shipments by sea use container shipping. The drawbacks of container shipping are the obvious increase in price as well as the less obvious time factor, Auto shipping companies are not quick to ship partial containers so you may have to wait a considerable amount of time before your container is full and ready to depart.

The closed truck or container offers more safety for your vehicle. The incidence of theft and damage is lessened as your car is neither exposed to inclement weather, road conditions or car thieves. If your car is of the rare, expensive, or custom variety or if it has a very long journey to make to its destination, the closed container is your best option regardless of the extra cost involved.

The reputable company will offer insurance for each and every vehicle it carries and any damages they sustain will be fully compensated while under their care. Over and above, they carry liability insurance of at least $800,000 to cover the cargo should several of the vehicles become damaged. Honest companies care about their reputations and will not sacrifice their name by mishandling or endangering their customers’ property. They will insure against this. So do not do business with any company that will not give you proof of insurance or fails to bring it up in initial conversations.

Classic Shipping for Classic Cars

Saturday, January 7th, 2012

At great expense you have finally customized that Classic Bentley and have taken it gingerly on the road to show it off to all the world. Or perhaps it’s that vintage Silver Shadow. But now you have to ship that precious and unique classic auto, and you have no idea how to go about it. You certainly don’t want to drive that rolling money pit thousands of miles away yourself, and teleporting isn’t here yet.

Fortunately for you there are plenty of auto shipping companies ready and waiting to pick up you gem and ship it off to wherever it needs to go. Your car that you love so much will be guaranteed to show up at its new home in one piece and as beautiful as the day it left your driveway.

You want to find a carrier with experience. It is not likely that you have been in this situation before, so you and even your acquaintances won’t immediately know of any reliable shipping companies. You need to either go online or locate a professional broker. Most companies will have a website, whether old and established or new and vigorous.

Like anything else, it’s best to shop around to find the best deal. You also need to make sure that you fully understand all of the terms and conditions that the carrier works under. Make sure that they understand that your automobile is not just a run of the mill car off of the lot. It’s important that the shipping company knows that your car is a custom one of a kind car and that they can cover it under their insurance.

If you choose to go with an open carrier to ship your car, make sure that you are guaranteed a top spot on the truck. Cars on the bottom are more susceptible to the top cars dripping fluid on them, rocks, vandals, and other hazards. The down side is that the top cars will be more exposed to harsh weather such as hale.

Ideally, you will choose a carrier with a closed trailer and one who is able to ship it immediately to its destination with no layovers in either their garage or some other company’s. This may cost you because you are asking that the carrier leave immediately without waiting for its usual minimal load before it takes off. If you don’t do this however, the company will take your car to a storage lot to await more traveling companions, thus increasing the odds of theft and bodily harm.

You will of course not add to the shipment any of your personal belongs for transport. It is a good idea to remove all customizations that can be taken off the vehicle and those that cannot, should be thoroughly documented.

Unnecessary fuel is a hazard: leave only enough fuel to get the car to the carrier and off it at destination. This extra fuel adds weight to the load and increases the cost to you.

Before you and your car part company, go over it with a fine tooth comb and note in writing even the smallest of dings, if any. And of course, after washing the beauty, on a clear day, take pictures from all angles with a digital camera and date them.
