Seniors and Dating

Monday, July 20th, 2009

A senior by definition is a person who is older than you or, more broadly, an older member of society. Dating, by definition refers to courtship between two people - which is usually romantic - who are either expecting or not expecting to get married.

So, ’senior dating’ refers to the romantic courtship between two persons who are considered older members of society, or the romantic courtship of two people where at least one partner is an older member of society. When referred to as ’senior’, this doesn’t have to mean that the person has to be above the age of maybe - 60 years of age. People of over the age of, for instance, 40 years are also considered ’seniors’, since people are thought to live ‘three score years and ten’ (70 years), half of which is 35.

Depending on which of the many senior dating services used (especially by means of online senior dating), the age group targeted may vary. However, generally - senior dating is for those who are above 40 years of age.

Senior dating gives seniors, who could be divorced, widowed or still single, a chance to meet people of a similar age bracket and to share ideas and interests or, if a deeper bond is found between the couple, a more meaningful relationship. This permits seniors to enjoy their life, just as they did when they were younger. Therefore, there are various senior dating services provided on the Internet.

In these senior dating services, which are obviously intended for seniors, there are few photos in the profiles - which gives those who have uploaded their photos an obvious advantage. Also, some of these senior dating services offer additional services such as anonymous email, instant messaging, chat rooms and forums.

When you make use of these online senior dating websites, you will be able to make new local friends, and chat with each other politely online, so that compatible partners can be found. Additionally, if you are meeting outside the online website, you should be certain that the meeting is held in a public place - especially if you are meeting one another for the very first time and do not know each other all that well.

A additional precaution you could take would be to inform someone you can rely on where you are going and with whom. However, if, for any reason, you begin to feel uneasy with the person you are with, just be polite and leave.

Although these safety measures might be general knowledge, it is necessary to repeat them here, because it is better to be safe than sorry. You would be well advised to stick to them as well. In this way, senior dating will be shown to be a successful and safe way of permitting those who are divorced, widowed or have children, to be able to reconstruct their lives and enjoy friendship with members of the opposite sex again.

Dating Advice

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Dating advice is abundant: it’s on the Internet, in magazines, books, newspapers and on the TV. Dating advice is so easy to give that an eight-year-old even wrote a book about it. (That child is intelligent and ought to be sought after by the girls, because while fundamental, all of his dating advice is true. If you have read the book, you would be forced to admit that that eight-year-old child does know what he is proposing (no pun intended): that is to keep everything straightforward. And that it in a nutshell when it comes to dating, keep things simple.

Leave your past in the past. It only holds you back. Anyone you get dating advice from will tell you that to have even one successful date, you need to dump all your baggage and start afresh. Do not ruin your chances by boring your new date with stories of your ex’s crimes against you. It is a just not on. Do not let old grievances spoil new chances.

‘Be yourself’ is probably the best dating advice possible. It’s true that people like to put their best foot forward, and impress their date, but if they aren’t their usual selves, not only will they feel uncomfortable, but their date will pick up on the uneasy vibes as well.

Not to expect too much (nor too little) is also good dating advice. If you expect too much from one date or from te person you are dating, it is highly likely that you will be discouraged by the results. After all, your date is only human too and first dates are generally at least slightly awkward.

A question that crops up time and time again is: who should pay? The general consensus of opinion in dating advice circles is that the one who invites, pays. But, others argue that it is always better to go 50/50 every time to avoid embarrassment. Furthermore, there is yet another school of dating advise though, that reasons that a man is not a gentleman” if he doesn’t offer to pick up the bill. The best thing to do in this scenario would be to settle for something that you and your date are both comfortable with.

Probably texting your date before your meeting is smart dating advise as it puts him or her at ease and allows you to discuss interests or hobbies in a much more informal way and less tense environment than your first date would be. That would allow you to use this as common ground when things get awkward (as they generally do on the first few dates unless there is an instant rapport) and get the conversation going again.

The most important bit of dating advice though, is to remember that no one date is a deal-breaker. No date is the end, so if one doesn’t work out, why worry, there will be others. And if they doesn’t work, there are plenty of other people to go out with.

Straight Marriages - Gay Unions

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

The debate about gay marriages has been a very hot political subject for many years and because it is such a hot topic, the number of places that have come out publicly either for or against the topic is not surprising. While there are few states that allow gay or same-sex marriage, there are a few that are more liberal, affording almost equal rights. Massachusetts is currently the only state in the United States that allows same-sex marriages. The state of Rhode Island is generous enough to recognize as a legal marriage any same-sex marriage that is carried out in Massachusetts, which is considered a major victory by many same-sex supporters.

Elections of recent years have seen this as a very hot topic and with the White House stating publicly that marriage can only be between a man and a woman, not same-sexes, many states have been very slow to allow same-sex marriages. However, a few states have allowed same-sex civil unions, which are very much like marriage.

Those states are, in alphabetical order: California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, New Jersey, and Vermont. The District of Columbia also recognizes same-sex unions and the Governor of New Hampshire has promised openly that he will soon sign a bill permitting same-sex unions. This is a major victory for the supporters of the movement.

While many states have not given the green light to the topic of same-sex marriage, there are states which are sitting around discussing the subject. Many couples who are struggling for their rights have argued that there is just no difference in the manner they run their households compared with their heterosexual counterparts. They have also stated that while they may be with a partner who is the same sex as them, they do still love their partner and ought to have the legal right to marry them too.

This has always been a hot issue, and probably will continue to be a hot topic for many years in the future. While the topic rages within the states and at the national level, it will more than likely be quite a long time before the gay and lesbian rights groups can truly declare a triumph for their cause. Nevertheless, there is some solace to be taken in the small victories as they occur, and another Governor of a state being willing to permit a civil gay union is at least a step in the direction of victory.

However, the fact is that the actions of the individual states usually reflect the opinions of the President. With a President in office who is a staunch opponent of same-sex marriage as well as civil union, it is unlikely to allow much room for many more victories until a more accommodating, or rather liberal, President is in the White House. Only time will tell what President Obama’s views are.

After the bill has passed through all the channels of state, it will go into effect as early as the next year for the New Hampshire residents, who have been waiting patiently. Each state that gives this right to its residents opens the door to more states to become more tolerant. Finally, this paves the way for America to join the bulk of Europe in sanctioning the legal inequalities of straight and gay couples nationwide.

Tips for Growing Online Dating Relationships

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Just like with regular off-line friendships, online relationships need to be tended and to be allowed to grow over time. Here are some quick growing tips:

1. Take Time and Make Time: Does your online date get in touch with you often? Do you do the same? Neglecting virtual meetings can be considered rude, so treat each other’s time with respect. If it’s lacking, it might mean that it is time to move on.

2. Communication Needs to “Feel” Right For Both of You: If one of you is being too pushy about having a meeting, for instance, that can create ill feelings. So, please, don’t rush; take your time to learn more about each other and develop trust.

3. Respect Each Other’s Privacy: Don’t share the other person’s email addresses or digital photos with your friends online, for example; especially if your online date sent you the information in confidence.

4. Share Special Online and Offline Fun Times: when online: send online greeting cards; links to favourite sites to upload digital photos of your favourite pet or car; download music and video clips; post on favourite forums of interest. When offline: if you’re exchanging addresses or post office boxes, send printed greeting cards and postcards and/or small items from your area (like a key chain with your state flower).

5. Share Recipes: People get tired of just talking about the weather, so a very popular subject to turn to is food. Sharing information about favourite foods and recipes will break the ice and even help create a friendship; talk about your culinary skills, or the lack thereof, and preferences. Search online for free recipes to share and take photos of your culinary masterpieces and share them with your online friend as well.

6. Bidding at Auctions: Ebay auctions sell anything and everything! So, surf about and enter searches like the dates you were in high school. Share nostalgic photos of old games and toys from when you were a child or when your parents or grandparents were little.

Online dating can be an educational and fun experience. So learn more about each other and have fun while youre at it. Take a cyber-stroll down ol’ memory lane together and see what’s cookin’. Tend your online friendship. Water it with care and over time it may sprout and grow.

advice on Asking Someone Out on a Date

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

No more procrastinating, this is the moment you have been waiting for and only you can make it reality. But, how can you have that dream date? Naturally, you have to start from the beginning and that means to ask the person you are interested in out on a date. Well, how should you invite a person out? Do you need to be assertive? Do you need to be coy? Perhaps you could do with a few tips to ask someone out?

The following are simple but essential tips you can use when you find it hard asking a person out on a date. These tips are great when you want to invite out the person you fancy. Firstly, know the right reason or reasons for asking a person out. When you know your reason(s), the right words will surely come to you.

What if the person says no? Well, don’t take a refusal to heart and definitely don’t expect it. Take it gracefully and maybe even have a light-hearted, self-effacing joke at the ready. However, for some people, it might be worth practising the words you want to use. To achieve this, try to keep the reasons for the date foremost in your mind.

However, the person might say “yes” and then you ought to have ideas about where to go, otherwise it looks as if you have not given it much thought. As much as possible, be ready with some ideas. See to it that you have an answer, if the person asks you why you are asking her out. You do not have to over-flatter, but you have to make sure that you make the person feel good. In this way, you can show how thoughtful you are, but never pressure anyone to go out with you.

If you did, the result would almost certainly be unpleasant. And don’t pressure anyone to tell you why the answer is no. Furthermore, never stand someone up. This means that when you ask a person out, you should mean it and you do not leave her waiting for nothing. If the person says no, do not get angry about it. You just have to move on and not treat that person badly. Having some beer to boost your confidence is definitely not a good idea.

It may just put you in an even worse situation. You have to be confident naturally. The more, the better, but not on a first date. If you want to invite a person out for a date, don’t do it when she is with a group of friends.

These are really useful tips and you really ought to take note of them. They will definitely help you out if you want to go out with your special person.
