St Valentine’s Day for Young Single Women

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Some people do not like being alone on St. Valentine’s Day. Younger women in particular think that being alone on St. Valentine’s Day bears a stigma, which makes them feel dejected and lonely.

But merely because someone is not in a relationship, it does not mean they cannot have a good time. Here are a couple of suggestions to help you have a time to remember.

1] Phone up all your single girlfriends and go dancing. Many young men like to dance every now and again or to their favourite songs, but they do not want to dance non-stop. On the other hand, young women often do like to dance non-stop, so you may have a better time without a boyfriend in a nightclub.

2] Another good idea for single girls on Valentine?s Day is to give a film night at your home. You can invite round all of your single friends and hire a few comedies.

Instead of being gloomy and depressed, you and your friends can watch the films and take the rise out of the characters in the film.

Hire a few horror films as well for an extraordinary night. Plenty of young people like horror films. They like to have a scream and hide their faces behind their friends’ backs. Treat the evening like a real night at the movies and buy or make popcorn, snacks, ice cream, etc..

3] You could hold a singles party. Invite all of your single friends and tell them they have to bring a friend of the opposite sex. Buy or borrow some of those party games that make you reply to personal questions like ‘Forfeits’ and ‘Twister’, where you have to put your hands and feet on different coloured spots on a plastic mat.

‘Mr and Mrs’ is another game where you enquire of one half of a ‘couple’ questions about the other in his or her absence. The other one has to confirm the replies when he or she is called back into the room. The answers might be side-splitting, because the contestants will not know each other well.

4] Hire a table in a non-romantic restaurant and get eight or more girlfriends to go out for a meal. Once the atmosphere begins building, it will be great fun and you could go dancing later.

5] You could organize a trip to the theatre and go for a meal later. Most people do not go to the theatre each year, so going with your friends on St. Valentine’s Day would make the day really unforgettable.

6] You could make up a basket of your favourite things. Include some truly special items like gourmet chocolate or other gourmet candy. Have something lavish to drink that is appropriate to your age.

Then you can pig out on your favourite foodstuffs and drink and watch a few films on your own or with your sister or other family member like a favourite cousin.

There are numerous items you can do to enjoy Valentine’s Day as a single girl, there’s no need to mope around feeling sorry for yourself at all.

Finding Bargain Antiques

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Most people like antiques because of the style and nostalgia they they evoke. Antiques also have a high perceived worth. However, this high perceived worth discourages many individuals from searching for them and collecting them. This is a pity because not all antiques are expensive. Valuation is difficult though unless one is in the antiques trade either by profession or by hobby / interest.

Comparison is not usually an option either if you see an antique that you like. For example, if you saw a candlestick telephone from 1920 on sale in a car boot sale, it is not likely that you will find others to compare it with. Is it worth $20, $50, $100 or more? It is very hard to tell, so the only thing is to ask yourself: what is it worth to me? How much money am I prepared to part with to own it?

Once you have the item, you can take it to an antique dealer and ask for a valuation so that next time you see one, you will have a better idea. This might appear like an costly manner of learning, but you do end up with a collection of items that you like.

If you are starting to take an interest in antiques, it is a good idea to check out the reputations of some local dealers and then cultivate the friendship of a couple of the better ones. Spend time in their stores, purchase items that you like, sell items that you have discovered, but do not need for your collection and invite friends to go to the store with you.

Smaller antique stores and second-hand shops that are run by a family are the best type to concentrate on because you can build relationships with people who matter in that shop.

Employees tend to know less and have less remit to negotiate prices. The owner will also probably have bought the antique him- or herself, so they will know some of the history (or provenance) of it.

One way of getting a discount is to pay with cash. There are certain costs attached to paying with credit cards and cheques, but antique stores and second-hand shops like cash transactions because they are less visible.

In the world of antiques almost everything is second-hand and as such it will have been used. ‘Used’ equals worn, so look out for wear and tear. The more perfect the article is, the nearer to its top market value it will be.

Therefore, it is up to you to ascertain the real condition of something before you purchase it. You can hardly ever complain the following day that you did not notice a scratch or crack and expect your money back.

If you are going to concentrate on a specialist field, say, antique telephones, you can get handbooks on antique telephones. Read it, study it and carry it about with you. Immerse yourself in it and do not move on to studying another topic until you are confident in your chosen field. Then take in an related field like telephone accessories.

The Hello Kitty Brand Simply Keeps Getting Better and Better

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

Over twenty years ago, I remember going to my local mall and buying all manner of things Hello Kitty. Back then, Hello Kitty was something new for young girls and even older girls. Today, Hello Kitty is still around and my twins like Hello Kitty as well. That is cool! How I liked Hello Kitty fifty years ago!

Wow, that is a long time to share the love of Hello Kitty with much of kids and now my twins love her as well. This lovable toy (character) appears to find its way through every generation. I remember when Hello Kitty was brought into the marketplace, at least when I first saw her in stores and malls.

I remember my mall had a Hello Kitty store, full of all this Hello Kitty merchandise. I must have been nine or ten when I purchased my first Hello Kitty toy.

I was purchasing this gorgeous kitty cat and so were my friends. All my friends, from the district and school, had this little kitty and I remember taking mine to school and showing off my latest ?pet? toy.

You may think the Hello Kitty toy (character) was created in Japan, but that is incorrect. As it turns out, Hello Kitty and her family, were created in Europe in 1974. Now, the firm that makes this endearing character is Sanrio, a Japanese firm, but she was created in Europe.

Did you know that Hello Kitty has a twin sister? Yes, her twin sister?s name is Mimi and her parents are George and Mary. It is as if these characters are real, in a sense. As I stated above, now my twins, who are not indistinguishable, like Hello Kitty and are best friends just like Mimi and Hello Kitty are.

The Hello Kitty brand has expanded in a big way. When this merchandise was first created, all that was available to little girls were some toys and note books. Now, almost everywhere you go, mall, strip mall, mass retailers and online, you will find clothing such as tank tops, shirts, sweaters, socks, boots, flip flops, umbrellas, watches, rings, necklaces, backpacks, luncheon boxes, clocks and so much more.

Anything you want can be found in their stores and online. There seem to be more goods online than in stores, but it appears more and more Hello Kitty products are being produced and added everyday.

Some more items you child may like are a selection of video games - there are quite a few video games to play these days. Along with video games, there are movies, books, stickers and tattoos. The theme of Hello Kitty goes on and on. It does not matter where your child is, they can get and or use Hello Kitty.

If your youngster is having a party, you can buy party plates, cups, decorations and face painting kits. If you or your child has a mobile phone, you can now use a cell phone cover or case for your iPhone4.

Little girls, or older girls, can buy Hello Kitty bedding as well. For adult women, if you use a credit card, a Hello Kitty Credit Card is now available too. Hello Kitty has been and continues to remain a very popular brand for kids and adults alike.

Owen Jones, the writer of this article writes on various subjects but is presently concerned with Hello Kitty from Japan. If you would like to read more, please go over to our web site entitled Kitten Cannon 3.

Four Pointers For A Telephone Interview

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

These days more and more interviews or at least first round interviews are made over the phone. In these days of high unemployment, there are sometimes hundreds of applications for a single job, so employers whittle the numbers down by holding first round telephone interviews.

Therefore, it makes sense to learn how to deal with such an interview. In this piece, we will give four tips on how to become more successful at telephone interviews.

# 1 Smiling: it sounds strange to advocate that smiling can make a difference in a tele-interview, but it can and it does. Smiling produces a transformation of attitude and conveys confidence. This confidence will be experienced by the interviewer. In the same vein, if you normally gesticulate a lot, gesticulate whilst you are on the telephone as well. Just be natural and normal and attempt to be happy. This all boils down to smiling, so attempt to smile in your telephone interview.

#2 Telephone: use a good quality telephone. Why? Because your voice and your intonations will sound more natural. In the days when everyone rented their telephone units from their telephone firms, before it was compulsorily de-regulated by the government, everybody had a decent, if expensive, telephone.

These days, you are able to purchase your own phone and plug it in. However, this often leads to individuals purchasing a cheap phone with poor reproduction qualities or keeping on using a phone long after it ought to have been replaced. Therefore, carry out your interview on a telephone of decent quality so that the interviewer can get an correct sense of who you are.

#3 Research: make sure you have researched the firm you want to join. If you feel as if you know the firm that you have applied to, you will feel much more confident and this confidence will come across in the interview.

Employers like it whenever their (prospective) employees are interested enough in their company that they have conducted some research into it. Having done research will also prepare you for questions like: why do you prefer to work for us? And what value do you believe that you can bring to our firm?

#4 Truth: the fourth tip is to be true to yourself. In other words, be yourself. Do not strive to say what you think the interviewer wants to hear. If you only say what you think they would like to hear, you will come across as sycophantic and if you win the job you might not like it there anyway. Be yourself and find the correct job for you.

You should practice your interview techniques in trials with friends or family playing the role of the interviewer. Do not forget, that the foremost thing in a telephone interview is confidence, so do anything you can to raise your degree of confidence and do everything that you can that permits that confidence to be conveyed.

The Apple iPhone - Is It As Good As Apple Says?

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

In common with all Apple products, the Apple iPhone is not inexpensive, so the question all prospective purchasers must ask themselves is: is the Apple iPhone hyper or hypo? Is it value for money, in other words?

Obviously when you look at any contemporary device, you have to take the entire package, including software and functions into account, not only look at the phone, which can not do anything without an operating system.

This is the nub of it really. The iPhone, along with numerous other contemporary phones, needs an operating system to make it work in the right manner. If this software is good, then the phone is simple to use.

Well, Apple has a lot of experience with operating systems (look at the Apple Mac), so it is not a problem to believe that Apple passes this test with flying colours. The Apple iPhone is fairly intuitive and therefore easy to use.

The iPhone has the ability to store and play MP3 files. This is a fantastic feature because it means that you just have to carry one item instead of two. Furthermore, any tune that you have saved to your phone can be used as a ringtone. You can load your own MP3 files from your computer, you can download them from the Net or buy them from Apple iTunes.

You can replay these tunes back through peripheral speakers using the built-in Bluetooth technology or you can use headphones, wireless or not. This all works very well and produces a good quality sound.

You have several choices for storage space for MP3 files. You can choose to have six, eight or sixteen megabytes of music related ROM (memory) installed at the time of buying the phone. However, you cannot upgrade this memory later nor can you use a Flashcard as you can with other telephones. This is a pity, because it means that the iPhone’s MP3 features cannot be upgraded.

The battery is a bone of contention. When the battery of a standard phone becomes depleted, you buy a new one and off you go again. Indeed, numerous power users of mobile phones have one battery on charge and one in the phone all the time.

However, you cannot do that with the iPhone, because the battery is not removable. While the battery does not work, you need to purchase a new, costly iPhone.

The touch-screen is very sensitive, so you have to take real care that it is not activated when the phone is in your bag or pocket, otherwise, you could be phoning someone without realizing it. However, this does not happen as often as you might think, but it is a worry though.

The Internet browser is not quite what you are used to on your home or laptop computer. For example, the browser will not store passwords or user names. This is probably because Apple is worried about your details being hacked through the iPhone’s wi-fi connection, so you have to used to bearing in mind any log in details that you require.

Owen Jones, the author of this article, writes on a variety of topics, but is now involved with looking for free online ringtones. If you would like to know more, please visit our web site at Family Plans For Cell Phones.

Ideas For St Valentine?s Day Present

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

Without any shadow of a doubt at all, St Valentine’s Day is the most important day of the year for lovers. Although many people contend that St Valentine’s Day is only a commercialized festival created for the reason of encouraging people to buy cards, flowers and presents. However, there are others who do not care how St Valentine’s Day started and are just happy to have a day when they can plan a romantic day with the one they adore.

For many people, this day involves giving a gift of some type, whether this is a small gift or an expensive present, working out what to give your loved one for St Valentine’s Day can be a difficult decision. This article will offer a couple of suggestions for gifts on St Valentine’s Day.

1] One of the simplest, and most prevalent St Valentine’s Day gifts is a card. It may not seem like a lot, but many people, women in particular, say that a card is one of the best presents they can receive on St Valentine’s Day. However, you cannot give just any old card, the best cards express your feelings about your loved one and your relationship.

You can buy cards with a pre-printed rhyme, but can also find cards which are blank inside, so that you can write your own feelings and if you cannot find a card that looks like you want it to, you can even try making your own card.

2] Jewelry is another terrific present for St Valentine’s Day. Simple earrings might be suitable for a new relationship, while a more expensive present would be appropriate for a relationship, which is more deeply rooted. Despite the price of the gift, the jewelry you give to your partner on St Valentine’s Day will be something she will really appreciate.

3] A weekend break is another excellent present for St Valentine’s Day. This kind of gift is more fitting for couples who have been dating for a while or who are married. If you and your partner have never traveled together before, you might want to discuss the gift with your partner beforehand as opposed to surprising him or her with the present.

4] What would St Valentine’s Day be without candy? The most traditional presents on St Valentine’s Day are flowers and candy. While these presents are greatly prized, most women would agree that candy is their favourite part of the duo. Flowers are beautiful and are always appreciated, but chocolates, and especially gourmet chocolates are the number one.

5] Finally, there is no reason why Valentine’s Day presents have to be any different than presents you would give for other occasions such as a birthday or Christmas. You can give things such as clothing, DVDs, CDs, electronic gadgets or anything else that you know your partner will appreciate. As long as you are giving your companion a present you know he or she will like, it will make a good present for St Valentine’s Day.

Air Purifiers

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

A lot of people are concerned about the environment in which they live both at home and at work. The stories of pollution are grounds for immense anxiety to a lot of people.

A great deal of individuals blame their allergies and other skin conditions on ‘bad air’ and there is proof to support their conjecture as well.

One remedy for ‘bad air’ that individuals are turning to is that of air purification. Air purification can be achieved with a dedicated air purifier or by use of high-powered filters in an air conditioning system.

It is usually cheaper to modify an existing air conditioning system than to buy a new air purifying unit, particularly if you want this new, clean air to become available in every room of your house.

Air purifiers are apt to work best in small confined spaces like an office or a child’s bedroom. lots of the companies that sell air purifiers boast that they will decontaminate the air in a room of 180 square feet. Well, OK, but let us merely pause and think about that.

That is a room of 15 feet by 12 feet - I am six feet long, so what they are actually talking about is a good sized bathroom or a small bedroom. For that, you pay around $150, but you do not have to purchase new filters, says the company proudly, you can clean and reuse the old one.

Others use replacement filters. These units are normally a little cheaper. They will filter (decontaminate) the air in approximately the same space, but the filters can cost $50-$60 each. They frequently use what are known as HEPA filters and they are (or can be some of the best on the market.

It is definitely worth bearing in mind the term HEPA filter, once you have reached a decision how you are going to draw or pump air through it.

If you are looking for an air purifier because you spend a lot of time in one room, particularly if the windows open onto a busy street or your spouse smokes, getting a portable air purifier could be an solution for you, but check the specifications very carefully against the dimensions of your room.

If you scrimp on the cost of an air purifier, you have thrown your money away - you may as well have tied a hanky across your nose.

Powerful, expensive air purifiers will work well in a limited space, but are portable and will probably do a better job than an air purification system affixed to your air conditioning unit.

However, if you would like to raise the general quality of the air throughout the whole house in one fell swoop, you cannot beat fixing a high quality HEPA filter to a central air conditioning system.

If you use a stand-alone air purifier, you will have to keep the doors shut to hold your clean air in and nag everybody to keep shutting the doors as well, but with an air purifier bolted on to to a central heating unit, you can behave usually.

Owen Jones, the author of this article, writes on many subjects, but is currently involved with central air conditioning systems. If you are interested in Home Air Conditioning Systems, please click through to our site.

How To Buy The Best Air Filters

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

If you have any kind of air purification system installed in your house or office, you will need to change the air filters at some time or another. I am not only talking about dedicated apparatus that only purifies the air here, but also air conditioning units such as you would find at home, in the office or even in the car. The principle is the same for all.

So, you may be operating an air purifier without even realizing it, but in that situation, especially if it is an older one, it could be doing you more harm than good. This is because a dirty filter will be blowing uncleaned air into the room at best, but in the worst case scenario, it might even be blowing contaminated air at you. Modern air filters do not only stop flies or even pollen from entering the system through the air intake, they go as far as attempting to obstruct common germs too.

So, you have two alternatives. If you have never replaced or cleaned your air filter or if you did not even realize you had one and the air conditioner or air purifying apparatus is over a year old, you should do something about it right away. Begin by reading the handbook. If you do not have one go on line and look to see if there is any information on your model at the maker’s website or even just anywhere on the Internet. If on the other hand, you have been cleaning and changing your filter methodically, think about getting a better quality filter next time.

You can go about locating the best brands of air filters for your particular model of unit by noting down any serial numbers and identification numbers and names. The brand and model are very handy too. You have two options here too. If you like going around the shops, take this information with you and ask about the best filters in several stores A large DIY or department store could probably assist here. Write every name and detail they give you down on paper and take it home. I prefer to go on the Internet first and take that information around the shops.

Confirm what they have told you on the Internet. Check it with the maker’s web site and compare prices. Decide what you want to buy and where from. Get a year’s supply in one go, it saves a lot of bother. Three or four units should last a year, if they are cleanable.

A high quality air filter will work better than a cheaper one. It will block more pollutants, including smoke and fumes - even some microorganisms, if it has been impregnated with a germicide. Many come with a long-lasting mild air freshener too, which will save you buying sprays.

Better quality air filters will save you money and bother by lasting longer in good serviceable condition. Cheaper ones may say they last as long, but the germicide and the air freshener may have evaporated within a week or two. Try to get a filter that is cleanable. The best ones can be cleaned two of three times before they have to be changed. If it is three times then it will last four months, meaning that you only need three a year at most.

If you have bought an unknown make of air conditioner or purifier, there is a good chance that it was still made by one of the big names or it a copy of a famous name, in which case a better filter may still fit into it. In this situation, take your old filter to the shop with you to get it compared.

Are There Any Problems In Downloading Ringtones?

Sunday, December 18th, 2011

A lot of people worry about whether downloading a ringtone from the Internet in order to personalize their phone is safe or not. Regrettably, there is no definitive reply to this question. ‘Is downloading ringtones safe’ is a part of a broader question, namely: is downloading anything from the Net safe or not?

Broadly speaking, the more up market the site you are downloading anything from, the less chance there is that you run the risk of downloading a virus. There is never zero danger, but there certainly is a great deal less. This means that you have to look at the web site that you would like to download from and calculate the probabilities.

The way to start doing this, for ringtone download web sites and all others too, is to look at the quality of the site. Does it look cheap? Does it look as if it was thrown together by an amateur or by someone who does not have quality on his or her mind. If the site does not ‘feel correct’ or if the costs are much cheaper than elsewhere, be suspicious.

Why would anyone want to trick you into downloading something from them - say a ringtone? Well, real ringtone aggregators (web sites that sell ringtones) pay royalties, so spurious sites will probably be breaking laws.

You might not mind about that, but what if there is a difficulty? Do you want to be involved? Or if your ringtone does not work, who are you going to complain to?

Another reason for people to sell you ringtones cheaply or give them away is so that they can put a tracking cookie on your computer hard disk. This tracking cookie will phone home each time you push keys on your keyboard (a key press tracker) or it could scan your hard disk for financial data.

For a further check, you could insert the name of the web site into a search engine in a style like: ‘worries with xxxx’ or ‘ringtone scam sites xxxx’, where ‘xxxx’ is the name of the ringtone site under your scrutiny.

Price is another cause for concern. There are sites that offer free ringtones, but most websites sell them. The average cost is about $3 for one or unlimited downloads for six months for $15 or $25 for a year. If the costs are much less then allow alarm bells to ring.

The ultimate way of preventing these things from happening is to have the best antivirus (AV) software installed on your computer and mobile phone or download the ringtones to your computer and then transfer them to your handset by Bluetooth.

The solution to not having to worry about downloading anything from the Internet is AV software. The very best costs just $60 for two years or so, so do not be mean, be protected.

Owen Jones, the writer of this piece, writes on a number of subjects, but is now concerned with looking for free ringtones for mobile phones. If you want to know more, please visit our web site at Family Plans For Cell Phones.

How To Keep Your Dining Room Table Mess-Free

Saturday, December 17th, 2011

Is your kitchen or dining room table a repository for everything that people can not be bothered to put away? In between meals does it get piled up with the post, books, school bags, hats and shopping just because people are too idle to put things away?

A gorgeous looking table is a delightful sight, whether you prefer a highly polished surface or whether you like to see a tablecloth or a runner. Books, a hat, gloves and keys are definitely not the same.

This sort of clutter is a bad practice because at some time or another, someone has to tidy it away and that someone is usually Mum and that sometime is normally just before she wants to set the dining table for a meal, precisely when she does not have the time to do it. Even when the mess is tidied from the dining table, it usually only ends up somewhere else where it should not be.

If you can not stop this bad habit by instilling some discipline into the members of your family, maybe you should try another line of attack. Screw two or three hooks per person into a board on the wall of your hall so that people can hang things up as soon as they come in and attach containers to the wall with the names of the family members on them so that they can put small things in them that they need every day like keys.

People can get into the habit of putting their stuff in their own container and hanging up larger things. Additionally, if you find something lying around where it should not be, you can dump it in the right person’s container. This should clear up mess on the dining table practically over night.

The dining table doubtless also acts as a desk for homework and work brought home from the office. This is not a difficulty so long as people clear their things away after them, which they all too often do not do. You can make it easier for people to clear their work things from the dining table by having a cupboard close by just for these things.

Attempt to establish good habits early on in a child’s life by encouraging it to eat off plates at all times because it catches crumbs and by always placing drinks on mats because it does not leave rings on varnished table tops which only have to be rubbed out later.

Another means to deter family members from leaving things lying around on the table is to lay a beautiful runner or tablecloth on it. Then put a centre piece on the table too. This could be a bowl of fruit or a few photos. If you use the table for dining, you could do what they do in hotels and lay the table with the cutlery for the next meal as soon as one meal is finished. It saves you a chore later on as well.

Owen Jones, the writer of this piece, writes on a range of subjects, but is now involved with contemporary dining room tables. If you would like to know more, please go to our website at Solid Oak Dining Tables.
