You can also have them send a signal to your main indoor alarm system control box, which will beep and let you know where the light is that was activated (front, rear or side of the house).
Garden security lighting can also be solar powered. This makes them slightly more expensive to buy but very much cheaper to put in and to run. Some of these lights are permanently fixed to the house’s fascia boards while others are just pressed into the ground. This latter sort are ideal for garden parties that go on into the night, as long as you remember to put them back where they belong before going in.
It is a good plan to aim the motion sensors of the lights some four feet above ground level or they will be switched on by every cat that comes over your fence in the middle of the night. Likewise, you can turn down the sensitivity of the PIR or microwave sensors so that the sensors do not pick up birds like pigeons.
The lights have daylight sensors on them too so that the motion sensors only activate the light at night. Some of these sensors will still register movement in the daytime and report it back to the main unit if you want that.
So, all in all, there are plenty of different options when you are considering home security, but garden security lighting has to come at the top of your list, if you want an effective, reassuring home security system.

People have always tried to protect themselves and their families, just like most animals do. In very early days, cavemen protected their caves by setting fires outside the opening to discourage interlopers and wild animals. Later on, man learned how to augment his security by training dogs to safeguard him and his family. Later still, houses and then doors were invented; bars and locks arrived soon after that.
However, until a few decades ago in the west, people lived in extended large families. A family could consist of six-to-ten children and the mother and the grandmother would often live there too. This made home security systems extraneous from the early 18th Century to the 1930’s, which were fairly peaceful times. After the Second World War, families were not so large and new families got their own house away from their parents.
Nowadays, both parents are likely to be working and the children are probably at school. This means that many houses are left unoccupied during the day, making them easy plunder for burglars. In fact, the number of household burglaries has increased by almost 10% in the last five years according to American government figures. Furthermore, according to a survey, forty percent of home burglaries were carried out due to inappropriate locks and doors.
ANSI (American National Standard Institute) created a standard for deadbolt locks for external doors which is very difficult to beat. If you are concerned about your exterior doors, you should seek these ANSI deadbolts out, but beware, there are many copies. However, regardless of the type of lock, the quality of the door is just as important. Its thickness and composition can also be a disincentive. After all, why put an elaborate deadbolt on a door made of cardboard?
There are about 14,000,000 home burglaries every year in the United States and many of them are preventable. The first stage that you should achieve in home security is well-built doors and sturdy locks. Deadbolts on exit doors is a good idea.
Once you have completed that, get some exterior security lighting that reacts to either motion or body heat. The former type are microwave and the latter passive infra red sensors. These sensors will also contain a daylight sensor so that they will only become active at night. The sensors will also save you money by activating the powerful halogen floodlights only when someone enters the scope of the sensor’s beam.
Once you have done that, you ought to think about a home security alarm system. This should consist of contact sensors on all outside doors and windows, vibration sensors on all widows to alarm you in case of breakage and PIR or microwave motion sensors in the corridors and hallways.

So what exactly is southwestern home decor and how can you introduce it into your own home? Well, to begin with southwestern home decor reflects the southwest and all its best traits. Southwestern home decor uses colourful throw rugs, gorgeous wall hangings, and if you look hard enough, you can even find great kitchen accessories as well.
If you’re considering introducing southwestern home decor into your residence, first of all, you have to check whether it will blend in with your existing decor or whether it will clash badly. Almost all southwestern home decor involves bright, eye-catching colours and stunning designs and motifs.
So, if your existing furniture would clash with any of these lovely pieces, you can do one of two things. First up, you could always just throw out every single piece of unwanted furniture that you have and replace them with gorgeous pieces of southwestern home decor. Or you could just buy one or two pieces of the southwestern home decor range and match them carefully with your existing knick-knacks.
Personally speaking, I would just love to replace everything I already have since there’s some wear and tear, but in the real world that’s just not possible. For one thing it would just be way over my budget, and for another I would rather not have to listen to a lecture from my mother about waste. I’ve discovered that you can get away from from your friends but not from your mother!
Besides, I’m also a little relieved that I didn’t give into my initial impulse and redecorate everything in a southwestern home decor style. Granted that it does look really nice, but sometimes I also like the peace and quiet that some of my other pieces of furniture bring about in me. Therefore, I have now come up with the perfect solution and have instead resorted to buying one-off pieces that attract my attention and sprinkling my home with those instead.
And I must say that its made quite a difference in the look and feel of my whole home. Lush and rich pieces of the more traditional furniture now sit quite comfortably next to the more vibrant and stunning designs of my southwestern home decor. I’ve also bought a great rug for my bathroom floor along with a gorgeous set of hand towels. My kitchen has a new set of southwestern motifs, and my foyer has the most amazing lampshade and statuette in prominent view.
Although all of this might sound a bit much, I’ve found that this is the best way to bring the glories of southwestern home decor into my home, without going all out and replacing your entire house with southwestern decor and motifs.
After all, you only want to bring a dash of southwestern decor to your home, don’t you? Not the whole thing! Oh, and did I forget to mention the gorgeous tapestry I bought the other day? It’s just perfect.

So, here you are then, in your new house! Its a bit of a mess though since the previous owner was in a rush to sell and had been in the middle of renovating. But, you don’t really mind that though, since it gives you the perfect chance to do your house up just the way you want it.
But now you need to decide where everything goes and what colours will suit your rooms, but you still don’t have any wall painting ideas.
So, you eagerly sort out your new keys and wander through your new house. The minute you step in through a door ideas hit you. That huge urn you bought a year ago would look fantastic in the corner, and you’re pretty sure that your existing sofa set will fit in this other room. And you know the antique mirror table would look stunning in the hallway. The only thing you really get hung up on though are wall painting ideas.
You don’t want to just dab on a coat of neutral coloured paint and be done with it. What you want is a masterpiece, something that you can look at with pride every time you see it. Your house is finally spick and span and you sit down and put your feet up for a minute with a nice cup of coffee by the side of you and you pick away at your muffin. You feel tired but it’s that good kind of tired when you know you’ve done a good day’s work and you have no regrets about it. An aura of contentment settles on you and you look around you with satisfaction.
A magazine lies in front of you appealingly within reach and you give in and pull it to you, intent on enjoying your well-deserved rest. The top cover story jumps out at you, entitled ‘Country Home Decor’. Naturally you flip through eagerly to that very section, you had only just read an article on some stylish country home decor about turning a house into a small country retreat in another magazine and it had greatly interested you.
There is page after page of the magazine filled with what can only be categorized as the most perfect examples of country home decor you can imagine. You gaze longingly at the various styles and furnishings you see gracing the magazine’s pages. A quick look up from your magazine assures you that your own modest home hasn’t changed somehow into one of those lovely country homes you were just looking at.
A heavy sigh passes your lips at this realization and you go back to gazing at the magazine spread. You had never thought that you were a person who could stand the whole country home decor style but now upon reflection you think you just might be able to.
Now without your even realising it, you find yourself marking the pages that intrigue you the most, making small mental calculations on how best to create the same effect but on the smaller budget that you have at your disposal. After all, it just wouldn’t do to fork out for that lovely Welsh dresser and have to go without your freshly ground whole bean coffee, would it?
However, you could definitely buy that appealing table runner without any problem. And if you gave all those modern chrome coffee mugs and dinner sets to charity you wouldn’t really be splashing out, would you, since you would’ve done your best for charity and given them all these things unselfishly?
And what about exchanging those jazzy blinds for something that’s a bit more in the country home decor style. And while you’re going about it, perhaps you could even swap that ugly lampshade you got as a Christmas present for something more country.
The only thing that is left for you to do now is to lie back and enjoy the fruits of your labours and gaze with beaming pride upon your beautifully redecorated home. Furnished, naturally enough, in the best of country home decor style that you could gain from every source that you came across, like that first magazine which started it all off.

For the person who seems to have it all or for the person who is bored with their lifestyle, there are a few things that you can do to jazz-up your life. Perhaps the best way though is to start redecorating your home. Some of the first places you should look at redecorating are your bathroom and kitchen.
These are usually the most overlooked and most used rooms in the entire house. Think about it, have you redecorated at least even one of these rooms within the past few years? The answer is probably going to be no. In which case think back to the last time you even looked closely at your bathroom or kitchen other than to clean them.
Probably, if you noticed anything at all, you put the idea off until a future date when you could devote more time to decorating your bathroom or kitchen. At that time though, the place probably didn’t look as old as it does now, after all, the years add up and even though you’ve been keeping it spotlessly clean you can’t stop the slow progress of time.
It is probably true that if you took a closer look now, you’d find that the curtains are looking a might shabby and ragged around the edges, as are the bathroom rugs. And do not even look at the toilet roll holder. It is quite true that they don’t make them like they used to, and with very good cause too!
So, you should do yourself a favour and throw out all that unused junk in the bathroom and get yourself some new stuff - you will be surprised at what lovely things you can find these days. Anyway, you’ve probably been admiring that beautiful new bathroom set you noticed in the mall for some time, so at the very least now you will have a good reason to go out and splash out on yourself.
And while you’re at it, don’t forget to buy that lovely new spice rack you saw last week for the kitchen and a few rugs that can be used in either room. They should be resistant to such commonplace accidents as water, soap, oil grease, fat and all the other things that somehow seem to become ground into carpets.
However, if you’re looking for a few new ideas on decorating your bathroom or your kitchen, there are a number of sources you can get your inspiration from. The best one I’ve found so far are the catalogues, which you can peruse to your heart’s content.
With all these options, you could even substitute something that is less expensive for the items that you see in the catalogues. This then, is the best way to get your decorating projects off the ground and to keep yourself busy for some time to come and to make your long suffering bathroom and kitchen areas spotlessly new and glitzy.

Yes! Yes, yes, and yes a thousand times more. That was the reply you gave two weeks ago when your boyfriend took you out to dinner and proposed.
