Nevertheless during a rite of passage it is possible to again heighten our sense of smell by trying a couple of exercises whilst out in nature.
The first way would be to put your focus, your consciousness on your perception of smell while you walk through the wilderness. Simply placing your awareness on that which you are smelling will once more get you away from your thoughts and into your senses.
While you become aware in the smells about you, the next step would be to heighten your sense of scent. You will probably notice that your perception of smell is really a lot stronger on the in-breath rather than your out breath. That is why dogs sniff a lot. By breathing in brief sharp sniffs they’re in a position to pick up more smells.
So to heighten your perception of smell in nature, do as dogs do and take in a variety of brief sharp breaths whenever you discover a smell you’re feeling attracted to.
While you walk along you’ll probably also discover there are much more smells closer to the ground and that the smells close to the ground are a lot more powerful. Practice taking short sharp breaths at head height as well as nearer to the earth and start to be aware of what you pick up.
You will probably also discover that as you stroll along, moist parts and objects in the wilderness possess a more powerful smell than dry objects. When you have a water bottle useful you are able to practice smelling objects when they are dry and then smelling them again when they are wet. You’ll probably notice the smells are more powerful and that you pick up much more small nuances within their smell when wet.
While you explore further into your perception of smell also attempt crushing a couple of leaves as you go and discover their smell. Attempt to gather up the little nuances within the smells. Like subtle flavors inside the smells.
An additional physical exercise you can experiment with on your rite of passage is passive smelling. When you’re taking short sharp breaths you are actively heightening your sense of scent and looking for smells. Nevertheless in the event you sit on the earth in the same location, instead start to be aware of the smells that are coming your way. Allow the smells surrounding you and also along the wind to come for you. You will turn out to be conscious that at every second in time the air smells different. Just like looking at a wave on the ocean. Each second differs. So too with the continual smells about you that are coming your way. Simply sit within the same spot and allow the different smells to come your way.
Go on a rite of passage within the wilderness and find your true life purpose.

To increase your peripheral eyesight even further, you can then place each of one’s hands out in front of you. Then slowly bring your fingers out to your side and notice the point at which you can not see your fingers. At this point, slightly wiggle your fingers so you can just see them in your left and right area of eyesight. This is the extent of one’s horizontal peripheral vision For many individuals they’ll get around a 180 degree field of peripheral vision to their left and right.
Next place both of one’s hands out in just in front of you once more. Then slowly raise one arm above your head and slowly lower your other arm down and to your side. When you start to notice each of your hands disappearing out of your field of vision, just wiggle your fingers. This is the extent of your vertical field of vision. For most individuals this will be about a 150 degree area of peripheral eyesight within the up and down directions.
Then as you play with your spiritual sense of peripheral eyesight in all directions you will discover that the extent of your peripheral eyesight is like a large oval of extended vision. This heightened field of eyesight is how indigenous individuals view the planet.
I prefer to label this state of utilizing your peripheral vision 3-D vision. For example, if you transfer your head to the right and left while being within this peripheral vision you will notice that objects near to you may also have a tendency to move towards the left and right. Similar to placing on 3-D glasses at an iMax theater. While you go for your walk while in this state of extended 3-D eyesight, discover how you possess a much larger perception in your depth of field. As if the objects you pass seem more 3 dimensional. You will also discover you are able to pick up a great deal more movement whilst inside your peripheral vision.
So when I start my heart walk I will spend a few moments strolling about getting in my 3-D peripheral vision as it will get me much more into my senses and takes me closer to tapping in to the spiritual dimension past the one we usually see.
You can also expand this extended sense of vision to a deeper level in order to ’see’ what is behind you.
To do this, once more discover a point within the distance that you really feel drawn to and soften your gaze. Go into your peripheral vision once more by wiggling your fingers at the extent of one’s peripheral eyesight in both of the horizontal and vertical directions. Then again bear in mind the extent of one’s peripheral vision by placing your awareness and focus on the oval at the extent of your peripheral vision.
Learn how you can deepen your spiritual relationship with your earth.

From what I’ve noticed the primary reason for doing rite of passage is that we’re generally out of alignment from the guiding power. That instead we’re listening to the thoughts within our personal minds and typically being head-strong concerning the issues that are triggering us.
For whenever we are listening to our heads we do not possess the focus and space to listen to our hearts. For our hearts are usually aligned and in sync with the guiding power and guides us to where it is we want to be guided to. For the heart is easy. It speaks easy truths. It leads to a simple lifestyle. A life devoid of tension. Devoid of stress. Life just works when you are in alignment with your heart and also the guiding power.
So how do you drop back into your heart and listen to the gentle advice from it?
The very first step would be to locate your awareness out of your thoughts and into your heart center. The first step is to close your eyes and hear the small voice inside your thoughts.
It might be saying ‘What little voice? I don’t have a small voice.’ Well… that is the little voice.
Merely locating your awareness and focus on the small voice inside your mind and get to know it’s tempo it talks at. Get to understand it’s loudness. Get to know the tone. And get to know what it states to you. Become aware of what the little voice inside your thoughts is stating for you. The almost constant noise within your thoughts that is full of chatter, worries, judgments and assessments.
Then start to treat the little voice inside your mind like a little child who’s seeking your attention. Pretend the voice within your thoughts has a toy that it desires you to play with. Or maybe the child just desires your focus. Rather than getting locked into what it’s saying, start to treat the voice inside your thoughts like a little kid.
And whenever you are dealing with it like a small kid that desires your focus then merely say to it ‘Thank you for sharing’.
You’ll likely discover a little pause inside your mind. A little area in between the thoughts. A gap inside the thoughts that are going around your brain.
This gap is what the Buddhists call no-mind. It’s a space within your mind when the continuous chatter isn’t going on. Like there is nothing going on along your mind. An empty mind. And you may instead place your consciousness and focus on this empty gap inside your brain called no-mind. To dwell in no-mind. For it’s ok to give yourself permission not to think. It is important to be this state of no-mind when you are seeking to listen to the soft voice within your heart.
Learn how you can do your personal rite of passage immersed within the wilderness.

Nevertheless, I also find that if I go away from the journal entry for at least a few hours, come back again and browse again over it that the intention gets to be much more precise the second time around.
After going over my intention for my meditation what I then do is create a summary of the preliminary paragraphs I’ve created. Then I make a summary of the summary. And then I usually summarize that summary and so on until I whittle the whole journal entry down into just one sentence. This does take a while to do, however as soon as I have my intention down into one sentence I then copy it in a small journal pad that I’ll bring with me on my heart walk.
If there are a variety of pressing problems alive for you personally, then it does work to look at numerous intentions in your heart walk. Again, it is great to put power into setting up your intention by spending time to make a journal entry about your intention then whittling your journal entry and thus intention down into one sentence.
I am unsure exactly why putting energy into your intention brings more clarity to the answers the wilderness provides you with. Nevertheless it’s like an energy and power is set up. It is like by placing this energy in that nature re-arranges itself for you to discover the solutions she’s wanting to uncover with you.
Jotting down the single sentence intention down into a small pad then releases the energy out into the world so that you don’t have to have it sitting inside your own thoughts. You launch the intention to the universe to resolve for you personally. This is carried out through nature. Through the messages she gives to you on your heart stroll.
As soon as you have gotten specific with your intention and also have put energy into it, the following part of the heart stroll would be to find the place in the wilderness exactly where you’ll drop into the wisdom contained inside the wild. This location in the wilderness is exactly where you’ll find the solutions around the intention you’ve set for the heart walk.
Many people usually have an almost immediate initial impression of exactly where to go. It might be somewhere they’ve been before and have a special connection with that area of the land. Or it could be somewhere they have usually wanted to go. Or it could also be someplace you’ve imagined.
However what I discover is that the proper location for your heart walk is generally the very first place that arrives to your consciousness which you really feel drawn to.
Using meditation methods in your nature walk allows you to restore a deeper relationship.

Another typical question I get from individuals who want a sense of relaxation is ‘What do you take on the heart stroll?’
There’s not much you’ll need to bring on your heart walk. For instance, all I generally bring is a small notice pad that goes into my back pocket along with a pen. Inside this note pad I’ll usually have my intention written down. Then as insights from the wilderness come through from the wilderness I’ll usually make some notes and sometimes draw a sketch of what I see. I usually discover this assists me later on throughout the integration phase of my heart walk after i am reflecting on all of the messages I have received from nature.
Some people also bring a bottle of drinking water and a few snacks with them when they go on the heart walk. Nevertheless I usually discover the less distractions I have the better. Likewise with shoes and clothes. Usually I’ll go barefoot whilst on a heart stroll as I am in a position to really feel much more of the land through the soles of my feet. And also the much less clothes I bring, the much less I have to worry about taking good care of. The heart stroll is much more about melting into and becoming one with the land rather than insulating ourselves from it.
As I drive towards the land I really feel drawn to, I generally have my little journal pad and a pen beside me. Throughout this time I usually drive in silence without the radio on. This provides me the time and free space to dwell further on my intention and to place more power into it. I find the more energy I place in to the intention, the clearer the messages I receive from the wilderness.
I also find that as I put time and power in to the intention that preliminary insights will come to me. After i get an insight I pull over and will either write the perception down or draw a little sketch if it is a picture which has come to me. On a variety of occasions, the messages the wilderness was wanting to give me have arrived to me while driving towards the spot I felt drawn. On these occasions I thanked the land with my internal voice and turned back again with out even stepping 1 foot to touch the land.
Your heart stroll begins the second you start putting power into your intention. It isn’t so much about heading for a walk through the wilderness. It’s more about being open for the messages the wilderness is trying to give you. The power which you place into your intention is mirrored back to you. The more power you place in, the more is mirrored back in the form of insights, symbols and messages via nature.
After i get towards the area of land I feel drawn to I then invest a bit of time getting into ‘the zone’ and becoming one with the land. I’ll cover ways to get into ‘the zone’ later within this post but it is essentially about making sure you get out of your thoughts, into your senses, tapping in to the pull of your heart and interpreting the constant messages that nature is giving us. Entering into ‘the zone’ is tapping in to the religious dimension past the one we normally see.
Use as numerous relaxation techniques within the wilderness as you possibly can so as to fully relax.

So if ever you feel your current life is not in alignment with the guiding power and not flowing, make an effort to drop in and hear your heart. For the heart is in continuous alignment with the guiding power. Continuously providing you phrases of wisdom and support. It is just a choice you make of listening to the delicate voice within your heart and going with it’s knowledge to get back into the aligned movement of life once more.
On a heart walk, you’ll tap into the wisdom, messages and insights that the wilderness is constantly giving us about an intention which you set.
The intention could be completely anything, however it is generally around something which is very important to you. For example it could be a relationship issue, a career path or a monetary constraint. Your intention could also be simply to connect much more deeply with nature. I usually discover the very best intentions are something that is very important for you that is in your thoughts a lot and is even now still unresolved.
Therefore the initial step of enlightenment would be to get clarity on your intention for the Heart Walk. I usually discover the more power you put into getting your intention, the clearer the answers you obtain from nature will be.
Many people have an immediate sense of what their intention will probably be. Of something they want clarity about. Nevertheless, the idea is to get this intention down into one sentence. The clearer the intention, the clearer the messages you’ll receive from the wilderness.
What I have found is that when individuals initially start thinking about their intention, they will find lots of suggestions floating around within their minds. They are usually vague thoughts and concepts that maybe aren’t very specific. Therefore the first phase of your heart stroll is to get these free ideas down into a distinct intention.
The way to complete this is to pick up your heart stroll journal and begin jotting down your intention for your heart walk. To merely just begin thinking about some thing you would like clarity on. Of some thing essential to you, that is on your mind a great deal and it is still unresolved.
In the end of your writing you may have jotted down a couple of pages of notes across the intention that you want to set. I find writing my intention down on paper makes the problem a lot clearer simply because I can actually see it in words in front of me.
Enlightenment within the wilderness allows you to tap directly in to the creator.

It was as though during this meditation I used to be everyone within the supermarket and feeling what they were experiencing. And knowing why they had been feeling what it had been they had been experiencing. Like my perception of self had dissolved and my sense of ‘I’ had expanded to be everything.
This sense of being everything all simultaneously lasted for around three weeks and then it slowly started to dissipate.
What was left following this experience is that there is a force. A force that is guiding every thing. I don’t know exactly what this power is but it is like everything has it’s personal organic rhythm that is being guided by this force.
For instance I remember back then at the National Park there had been some yellow flowers up on a sand dune. And I also remember every morning they’d open soon after the sunlight would rise. Plus they would slowly start to shut once more just prior to dusk. That’s just what they did every day.
It had been not as though they had to recollect and consciously push on their own to open up and shut every day. That’s just what the force was guiding them to complete. And after i experienced myself as the flower I then got to feel what it had been to open and shut every day. For this was my natural rhythm that the power was guiding me to do.
Similar with the ocean. Two times every day the ocean would rise and fall. It might be pulled up and sink down twice every day. Again, this really is just what the ocean did. For this was the ocean’s organic rhythm. Guided to be pulled up and guided to sink lower. Twice every day. For that’s just what the ocean was guided to do.
Comparable for the sun. And the moon. The bugs, the wallabies and also the dolphins. All had their organic rhythm and each was always guided within their actions by this subtle pull.
What I discovered was that I too had a organic rhythm which was also guided by a subtle power. For I discovered my natural rhythm was to wake somewhat prior to sunrise. To have a rest at mid-morning. Another rest within the mid-afternoon. After which to visit bed just after the sun set. This is my organic rhythm. Guided by the force whenever I pay attention to it.
And from what I’ve seen, everybody has their very own natural rhythm that is also guided by this delicate force that is inside all objects of nature. And whenever you are in alignment with ‘the force’, your life works. Synchronicities turn out to be the norm. You are in the precise correct place at the precise right time. And whenever you are out of alignment with the force and your natural rhythm, that is when life tends to become hard work. When it feels like you need to push and battle to make things work.
Learn how to deepen your meditation to connect with the earth.

And what I’ve since discovered is the fact that this peak spiritual feeling of being linked and at one with every thing is always there. Even when I feel a sense of anxiety and tension, I know that underlying these emotions the sense of oneness and link with all objects within nature is usually there. Just waiting to tap into again.
For I have been on a 15 yr quest to understand what occurred that day and for the weeks afterward. I’ve been to dozens of religious workshops, read hundreds of books and spent countless hours in the wilderness meditating, tapping in and recreating the feeling of oneness. From what I have discovered, when you have the proper conditions and coaching most people are able to tap into this state within a few hrs. It is feasible to consciously get out of your thoughts, into your senses and tap in to the dimension beyond the one we normally see.
This 15 yr quest has lead to what I today label The Heart Walk. It works by getting clear on an intention around something you want clarity on and then immersing your self in the wilderness to drop directly into the knowledge and mystery of nature. You’ll discover how to permit your heart to manual you. You will learn how you can talk with the wilderness and pay attention towards the messages she’s continuously providing you. And also you will get to experience the perception of oneness and link to all things that is always present in nature.
The perception of oneness and connection with all things that day on the beach within the National Park lasted for approximately three weeks. During this time I remember going into a grocery store in a little rural city as I was running low on meals.
I remember back then sensing what it was like to be everybody inside the grocery store. Like my own perception of identity had dissolved and that I was still everything outside of myself.
For instance, I remember a lady in front of a stand of apples and she quickly grabbed the apples, threw them into a plastic bag and rushed off to obtain her next items. And I comprehended why she did this.
But an older man then went up to the apple stand and gradually picked up an apple. He took his time to assess the apple, to determine if there have been any bruises. If there were any black spots on the apple. Whether it looked like it might be crunchy or floury. After which he gradually positioned the apple in his plastic bag. And I also understood why he did this.
Your spiritual connection with the land will give you the way to broaden with your life more deeply.

When that location in the wilderness arrives to mind, I then make an effort to visualize it in my mind’s eye. For example, I make an effort to see the trees. To take a look at the rocks. To become conscious of the branches around the earth. The streams. The moss. The lichen. I spend time in my mind’s eye literally going for a stroll about this location I feel drawn to.
In the event you experience it difficult to get a sense of inner peace in your mind’s eye, then you can strengthen your inner eyesight by doing the next routine:
Firstly go out into your backyard and spend a few moments letting go of tension in the body. To get this done, take a few moments scanning all through the body and start to be aware of any stress. Then similar to dropping a rock to the earth, imagine dropping the stress inside your body to the ground. Similarly you can do this with your mind. Spend a couple of moments scanning throughout your thoughts for any small amount of stress. Then just drop that tension to the ground. Just like letting a rock drop from your hand towards the earth. I find this dropping of tension works best on the out breath because it is an energetic method to let go of tension. The earth can then use this stress where she must utilize it.
As soon as you are inside a state of no stress and rest, then you can scan around your back lawn and search for an object you’re feeling drawn to. This might be a leaf, a twig, a flower or maybe a piece of grass. Just look for a component within nature which you really feel drawn to. You will be using this object to reinforce your inner eyesight.
Take a few moments studying this object. Attempt to take a look at all of the different shapes. The various colors. The various textures. How the sunshine falls around the object. Whether there are any shadows. The different patterns. Attempt to take in all of the little nuances in the object in front of you.
Then when it feels like you have studied the object in front of you enough, gently shut your eyes and try to generate a picture of what that object looks like inside your mind’s eye. Begin with one thing you know about this object after which add the different layers to the object, forming a clearer and clearer image.
For instance, if you are drawn to an unusual tree, you can begin to look at the trunk on the tree in your mind’s eye. Then the leaves. The branches. The little nuances around the trunk. The shadows on the earth. The colour in the leaves. The roots alongside the earth. Intend to visualize as clearly as you can the object from nature in your mind’s eye.
Discover how you can loosen up and experience a level of inner peace inside your body.

Now there is absolutely nothing in any way incorrect with having a sense of intuition. In fact it is almost the opposite.
The human mind is a powerful tool that’s in a position to create nearly anything it could see. For instance, the human mind continues to be in a position to make machines to deliver man into space and also to the moon. The human mind has produced a global telecommunication network that allows you to immediately speak with someone on the other corner of the world. And the human mind has created conditions to build the human population to more than 7 billion people.
The human cerebral cortex does have an nearly unlimited quantity of energy to make what it wants to make.
However, the human brain may also sabotage. For example, after i paddled to the other surfers and sat in the center of the pack my mind was screaming to me ‘What the hell are you thinking you are doing?’ If I had listened to my head that day whilst surfing at Flat Rock I’d have freaked out, paddled back again towards the edge of the pack and most likely not even ridden a wave. For it’s this constant chatter inside our personal head that calls us away from the subtle pull of the organic force that’s regularly guiding us.
Now once more, there is absolutely nothing at all wrong with thinking. That is just what the mind does. Just like the bodily job of the heart is to beat, therefore also the physical job of the mind is to think. That’s just what it does.
Nevertheless we generally put a lot attention on the thoughts within our head that it drowns out the subtle voice of the heart and of the power that is constantly guiding us. That is most likely why there’s so much anxiousness and tension within our present society. Rather than going with the organic movement in the universal power, our minds get within the way and block the organic flow. That is why things tend to get out of alignment and we often feel a sense of disconnection.
Nevertheless there is another way. There is a way to get right out of your mind and come to your senses. And once you’re in your senses you’re able to open up to sensing the subtle pull from inside. The veil lifts and also you can feel that perception of connection with all things. And also to drop into their distinctive wisdom. Towards the wisdom contained inside the wilderness.
We’ve all had those occasions in our life when things just do not work out for us. Perhaps we’ve gotten into monetary difficulties. Or perhaps our relationships have broken down around us. Or perhaps we really feel we are in an almost constant state of anxiety and stress.
Finding your intuition when in the wilderness allows you to connect more deeply with the earth.
