Ideas For St Valentine?s Day Present

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

Without any shadow of a doubt at all, St Valentine’s Day is the most important day of the year for lovers. Although many people contend that St Valentine’s Day is only a commercialized festival created for the reason of encouraging people to buy cards, flowers and presents. However, there are others who do not care how St Valentine’s Day started and are just happy to have a day when they can plan a romantic day with the one they adore.

For many people, this day involves giving a gift of some type, whether this is a small gift or an expensive present, working out what to give your loved one for St Valentine’s Day can be a difficult decision. This article will offer a couple of suggestions for gifts on St Valentine’s Day.

1] One of the simplest, and most prevalent St Valentine’s Day gifts is a card. It may not seem like a lot, but many people, women in particular, say that a card is one of the best presents they can receive on St Valentine’s Day. However, you cannot give just any old card, the best cards express your feelings about your loved one and your relationship.

You can buy cards with a pre-printed rhyme, but can also find cards which are blank inside, so that you can write your own feelings and if you cannot find a card that looks like you want it to, you can even try making your own card.

2] Jewelry is another terrific present for St Valentine’s Day. Simple earrings might be suitable for a new relationship, while a more expensive present would be appropriate for a relationship, which is more deeply rooted. Despite the price of the gift, the jewelry you give to your partner on St Valentine’s Day will be something she will really appreciate.

3] A weekend break is another excellent present for St Valentine’s Day. This kind of gift is more fitting for couples who have been dating for a while or who are married. If you and your partner have never traveled together before, you might want to discuss the gift with your partner beforehand as opposed to surprising him or her with the present.

4] What would St Valentine’s Day be without candy? The most traditional presents on St Valentine’s Day are flowers and candy. While these presents are greatly prized, most women would agree that candy is their favourite part of the duo. Flowers are beautiful and are always appreciated, but chocolates, and especially gourmet chocolates are the number one.

5] Finally, there is no reason why Valentine’s Day presents have to be any different than presents you would give for other occasions such as a birthday or Christmas. You can give things such as clothing, DVDs, CDs, electronic gadgets or anything else that you know your partner will appreciate. As long as you are giving your companion a present you know he or she will like, it will make a good present for St Valentine’s Day.

How To Keep Your Dining Room Table Mess-Free

Saturday, December 17th, 2011

Is your kitchen or dining room table a repository for everything that people can not be bothered to put away? In between meals does it get piled up with the post, books, school bags, hats and shopping just because people are too idle to put things away?

A gorgeous looking table is a delightful sight, whether you prefer a highly polished surface or whether you like to see a tablecloth or a runner. Books, a hat, gloves and keys are definitely not the same.

This sort of clutter is a bad practice because at some time or another, someone has to tidy it away and that someone is usually Mum and that sometime is normally just before she wants to set the dining table for a meal, precisely when she does not have the time to do it. Even when the mess is tidied from the dining table, it usually only ends up somewhere else where it should not be.

If you can not stop this bad habit by instilling some discipline into the members of your family, maybe you should try another line of attack. Screw two or three hooks per person into a board on the wall of your hall so that people can hang things up as soon as they come in and attach containers to the wall with the names of the family members on them so that they can put small things in them that they need every day like keys.

People can get into the habit of putting their stuff in their own container and hanging up larger things. Additionally, if you find something lying around where it should not be, you can dump it in the right person’s container. This should clear up mess on the dining table practically over night.

The dining table doubtless also acts as a desk for homework and work brought home from the office. This is not a difficulty so long as people clear their things away after them, which they all too often do not do. You can make it easier for people to clear their work things from the dining table by having a cupboard close by just for these things.

Attempt to establish good habits early on in a child’s life by encouraging it to eat off plates at all times because it catches crumbs and by always placing drinks on mats because it does not leave rings on varnished table tops which only have to be rubbed out later.

Another means to deter family members from leaving things lying around on the table is to lay a beautiful runner or tablecloth on it. Then put a centre piece on the table too. This could be a bowl of fruit or a few photos. If you use the table for dining, you could do what they do in hotels and lay the table with the cutlery for the next meal as soon as one meal is finished. It saves you a chore later on as well.

Shiatsu Massage Therapy

Saturday, December 3rd, 2011

Practically every country in the world has developed a kind of massage that is quite unique to itself and some have invented more than one. Shiatsu is a Japanese variant of massage and the word translates as ‘ finger pressure’ in English. It is one of the more energetic kinds of massage.

Shiatsu is probably based on the Chinese idea of meridians and acupuncture although this form of massage therapy uses acupressure instead of needles. For the rest the philosophy is quite similar. Applying pressure to various points on the meridians is meant to restore balance to the body’s life force.

The massage therapist does this by applying pressure, maintained for several seconds, to various points that he or she determine to be the right ones to accomplish their aim of making you feel better. Advocates of shiatsu say that it improves circulation, which delivers more oxygen to the affected area, which relieves muscle pain and stiffness.

Unlike Swedish massage therapy, which uses broad sweeping, relaxing strokes by and large, shiatsu uses sustained pressure, which can become a little uncomfortable or even painful. The customer has the option of asking the masseur to use less pressure, but at the danger that the therapy will be less effective.

This is the dilemma for both the patient and the masseur. More can be achieved more quickly through a little pain, but the same could be gained during several milder sessions. In general, it is worth allowing the masseur to take charge, but register your discomfort / pain by exhaling as if you have been struck.

Shiatsu massage does not employ any oil and is a mild form of therapeutic massage in a similar vein to Thai massage, although it is less enthusiastic than its Thai cousin. However, shiatsu, like Thai massage, is an excellent remedy for joint pain, including backache, constipation, poor digestion. stress and sleeplessness.

Because shiatsu is a forceful massage technique, it is not recommended for individuals with cuts and bruises, delicate skin or any skin diseases at all. It is OK to go to a session having consumed something light like a small salad, but most people find it better to fast until after the massage is over, because there may be some abdominal massage of the stomach, although you can request to forego that.

Shiatsu can be performed on a massage bed or, more usually in the East, on a thin mattress on the floor. A typical session will last an hour and the massage may be carried out with clothes on or just a towel. The foremost thing is to feel relaxed before you start, even if you do not afterwards. The room should be well-ventilated with reasonable (natural) lighting.

Shiatsu is not one massage therapy but a number of them, so if you go to northern Japan, you will probably encounter another type from the south and definitely another type from New York or London. This is not a problem, it is standard.

Swedish Massage Therapy - Some Facts

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

Swedish massage therapy is the most common type of massage given in Europe and America, so if you have ever had a massage, it was probably a Swedish massage.

Swedish massage therapy is the most gentle of the full-body massages, which makes it perfect as a general massage therapy. It is usually performed with oil, which gives it its other name of oil massage.

It is such a mild massage that you could have one a number of times a week, but it will invigorate and stimulate you. The massage therapist rubs oil into the skin with a firm, but fairly light pressure in the direction of the blood flowing back to the heart. This takes some of the work load off the heart as well.

The Swedish massage was purposely made up in the 18th Century and so is occasionally known as the ‘classic massage’. It was intended to relax the body by stimulating the flow of blood, but what they did not know then, was that this procedure assists remove lactic acid, uric acid and other natural waste substances from everyday living that build up in the joints every day.

Because of the manner in which the massage is carried out, the body gets all the benefits of an increased circulation without the body having to work more for it. This is like compound interest for the body - something for nothing and it simulates mild exercise like walking.

Like with walking, Swedish massage stretches the ligaments, tendons and muscles to keep them pliable and flexible. This makes this form of massage ideal for people who are bed-ridden or in a wheelchair.

The therapist might use the flats of the hands, the heals of the hands, the finger points or the knuckles to get the right effect. There is often a little bending and stretching of the joints too. Oil is rubbed into small areas of the body at a time as they are being massaged. This oil may ruin clothing, so a lot of people take their massage in the nude.

If you or the masseur are not comfortable with this, you may wear a baggy t-shirt and shorts, your bathing costume or a towel. However, you may opt to have a masseur (male) or masseuse (female) therapist if you like.

A session is usually booked in half-hour blocks. Most people will have a one hour session (two blocks), but 90 minutes and two hours are common too. The massage is usually carried out in a private booth or room for absolute privacy. Once you are in that room, you may call the shots with regard to the severity of the massage. If it is too rough or not rough enough, merely say.

Similarly, if you do not like the music or would prefer not have any music at all, just say so. In the same vein, therapists are only normal individuals, some are chatty, some tell jokes and some are quiet. If you want to talk, merely talk and if the therapist is talking too much, simply request a bit of peace and quiet.

Why Should I Try To Stop Smoking?

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

One of the reasons why stopping smoking is so hard is because nicotine, which is a natural constituent of the tobacco leaf, is very addictive on two levels: both psychologically and physically. This is why patches and gums are not effective for most individuals - they do not have any affect on the psychological dependence of smokers.

So, anyone wanting to bust the habit has to attack nicotine addiction on both levels. Take the tablets, chew the gum and put on the patches by all means, but you will need something else to replace or displace the psychological dependence too. One of the most effective ways of doing this is attending a support group.

Peer pressure and peer support are two of the reasons why support classes work, but you might not have to attend a full support group, if you can discover a different way of attaining the same effect.

One example that may work is if a couple both give up together providing support for each other. Husband and wife teams giving up together frequently works as do a couple of colleagues in an office.

The more you smoke, the harder it will get to quit. That is fairly understandable, but do you know whether you are a heavy smoker? Astonishingly, it does not depend on how many cigarettes you smoke, but if you have to have a cigarette within thirty minutes of waking up, you are considered to be a heavy smoker.

Despite the famous fact that smoking causes serious illnesses, smokers continue to puff away and give excuses for themselves. This might be because there are other psychological forces at work. One of these is the fear of failure and another is the dread of putting on weight. The former tends to have an effect on men and the latter women.

Have you heard of the ‘Five A’s of Quitting’? It is a system used by counselors and perhaps you could use it to assess your own predicament:

Ask about the smoker’s habit; Advise about quitting; Assess the smoker’s resolve; Assist to stop; Arrange follow up checks.

It is the case that 80%-90% of all long term quitters just stopped smoking one day and never took it back up. 10% of all temporary quitters tried the same tactic. Other less successful methods are hypnosis and acupuncture. There is evidence that fasting reduces the craving for nicotine, but a lot of individuals might find it equally as difficult to fast as to stop smoking.

It helps individuals who are attempting to give up to avoid smoky places where individuals tend to smoke more anyway. This used to be bars, but you may not smoke there anymore anyway, however the law does not apply to private parties.

Be wary of the number three. It sounds weird, but the first three hours of quitting are the most difficult; after the first three days, you think that it was not so hard after all; after three weeks, you start to kid yourself that one cigarette with a beer will not hurt, but if you can sidestep smoking for three years you ought to be in the clear and if you hold your guard up, you will probably never smoke again.

Owen Jones, the writer of this piece, writes on numerous topics, is at present involoved with the reason why to quit smoking. If you are interested in massage, visit our web site now: Health Risks to Smoking

How To Buy Garden Furniture On Line

Sunday, June 12th, 2011

Buying garden furniture on line is not the ideal solution as it both solves and presents some difficulties if it is used haphazardly. For example, if you find it difficult to get around the shops and garden centres, the Internet will permit you to visit hundreds of places to contrast styles and prices, but you will not have had sight of your furniture and it may be costly to return it.

Therefore there are a couple of things to watch out for if you want to buy garden furniture on line. Some of these suggestions will apply to other goods as well especially weighty items.

Be wary of shipping charges because some companies will strive to hide the fact that they can be horrendous. If delivery charges are an extra, do not forget to add these fees on to the cost of the garden furniture before you evaluate prices. Some businesses will talk some claptrap about an order processing fee in an effort to mask their delivery fees. These companies are being dishonest and you should avoid them like the plague.

Try to switch off to the words ‘discount’ and ’sale price’ until you have added up all the costs and you have compared this total with the total cost of a similar item. Likewise, be very wary of comparisons between list price and sale price. Manufacturers frequently ‘recommend’ a high list price deliberately so that the retailer can offer a discount. It is very common practice, but designed to deceive.

Be careful of ‘price snobbery’. If you see two retailers selling precisely the same things of garden furniture but at widely different prices, do not be automatically convinced that the cheaper one must be second-rate. Instead, look around the cheap web site for extra costs. Do not forget that most retailers buy from the same manufacturers.

Do not trust any firm that says that they will not be beaten on price because they are the cheapest on the Internet or that they will undercut anyone you can prove is cheaper. They have no proof that they are the cheapest and if you prove that they are not they will decrease their price only to you because you caught them in their lie. These people are liars.

Firms that make a big issue out of quick service are not really giving you anything. Every company likes a fast turn-around because they can bank the check earlier and the warranty finishes sooner too. You will find out how decent their service is if you have difficulties. Empty promises and blowing one;s own trumpet mean nothing. Self praise is no praise.

You can check up on the firm’s customer service record by typing the company’s name, city of business and the word ‘issues’ or ‘problems’ into Google. You will soon be able to determine for yourself whether you are dealing with a reputable firm or not. Purchasing garden furniture on line is the same as buying anything else expensive on line: it is up to the buyer to beware before parting with his money because it may be hard to get it back if there is a problem.

Which Are The Styles Of Garden Furniture

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

If you want to get some new garden furniture, the first thing to do is think about the styles of garden furniture that would suit your garden and your requirements. If you already have an idea of what you would like, you are already half way there, otherwise you will have to do some research on the different styles of garden furniture

This research can be done on line quite easily by typing ‘garden furniture’ into Google, but if you would prefer more information on the furniture, you could get a few magazines on gardening and landscaping. If you rather a more hands-on approach, you can go around the home improvement stores and the garden centres.

In fact, you will have to go to the shops sooner or later anyway unless you intend buying on line too. I personally like to do some research on the Internet first and then use the knowledge that I gleaned from there to make informed decisions in the store. I do not really trust the photos. I want to see and touch the garden furniture and check the joints and finish.

Once you get to the garden centre, you will discover different styles of garden furniture including: farmhouse or rustic, contemporary or modern, resort or poolside and these can be manufactured from hardwood, softwood, plastic or metal.

Hardwood is by far the most popular material for garden furniture and most people prefer the farmhouse style, although there are some fantastic modern styles too.

No matter which style you prefer or what it is made of the number one best piece of advice is to get the best quality that you can afford. This is true of most items you can buy, but I think that it is particularly true of garden furniture because it has a very hard life. Just imagine it: snow, rain, heat; temperatures varying from -5c to + 35c and varying humidity.

Cheap plastic cannot put up with those conditions. I used to buy cheap plastic and needed to replace it every eighteen months. Then I bought expensive plastic and I still have some of that but in essence it only lasted three years. I have seen metal garden furniture and it always rusts, even if it is plastic coated, enamelled or painted. Softwood lasts well, but it will rot after about five years even if it is fairly well taken care of.

The only garden furniture that I have ever had or seen at friends’ houses that lasts and looks good all that time is hardwood. There is a broad selection of hardwoods. There are native hardwoods like oak, cherry, walnut, maple and beech and foreign hardwoods like mahogany and teak. These hardwoods can also be stained to practically any colour although most people prefer the natural look.

Hardwood garden furniture is simple to maintain as well: just rub it over with linseed oil once or twice a year. If you carry out this simple maintenance procedure the timber will not dry out and it will resist the elements for twenty years or more ensuring that you get maximum value for money from this, the finest of all the styles of garden furniture.

The Only Way To Stop Smoking Cigarettes

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Smoking cigarettes used to be a lot more popular than it is today. Now most smokers are searching for methods of stopping smoking. This is because smokers and the general public at large are more aware of the risks of smoking cigarettes these days.

Just look at films manufactured in the Sixties and before, everyone is smoking. It shows how common smoking was compared with today. This would not be possible now as you may not smoke in public places, on public transport, in restaurants or in bars any more in most Western countries and elsewhere too.

The difficulty with smoking is that not just the smoker suffers, so does everyone around about the smoker. This is called passive smoking and it affects those working or living with smokers - a barmaid or a spouse for example. So, all these individuals are endangering their health so that tobacco firms can become richer.

No matter how long someone has been smoking, it is possible to stop the habit. Anyone who has stopped smoking will tell you that stopping smoking cigarettes is all to do with the mind. You really have to want to stop smoking or you will not do it successfully.

Individuals have different ways of stopping smoking cigarettes. Some say that nicotine patches or nicotine gum help, because you can wean yourself off nicotine slowly without having to inhale the poisonous smoke of cigarettes. Nicotine is highly addictive and most of the chemical withdrawal symptoms have to do with the shortage of nicotine in the body.

Most individuals find that the single effective way of stopping smoking cigarettes is to stop smoking dead - in one go. It is very hard to cut down or to switch to a weaker brand. You are still inhaling poisonous smoke. It is still no good to you or anyone about you.

Cutting down or switching brands does not work, because you will still smoke other smokers’ and you will still be in a smokers’ environment. You will also find yourself smoking tomorrow’s five cigarettes today, promising not to smoke any the next day. That never works. You have to give up smoking dead.

There are a number of situations that can provide the motivation to quit smoking cigarettes. Illness is usually high on the list. A few years ago two friends of mine who smoked heavily stopped smoking cigarettes within weeks of each other.

One was in his sixties and had smoked for almost sixty years: he was told that his lungs were beginning to go, but that if he stopped smoking, the shock might kill him. He stopped smoking one morning and is still alive, but what a dilemma!

The other was in his fifties and drove a great deal as a travelling salesman. The doctor told him that he would probably have to have a leg removed next year, if he did not stop smoking and that the other might go a year or so after that. He stopped smoking immediately and still has both legs.

So it seems that the trick to stopping smoking cigarettes successfully is to find your motivation (do you want to live long enough to see the grandchildren married?) and bear that image in front of you at all times. Take nicotine substitutes if you have to and stay away from environments where individuals smoke more, like pubs.Join a sports club instead, something like tennis, table tennis, swimming or even chess.

Is Your Home Office Furniture Hindering Or Helping You?

Monday, May 9th, 2011

Do you work from home? Or do you surf the Internet or buy or sell on eBay? Do you send and receive email? Of course you do, because you are reading this piece. So let me ask you, how much attention do you pay to the equipment you use to perform these tasks?

You might make sure that you have the latest and fastest computer, you may make sure that you use the provider of the fastest broadband connection accessible in your area, but how much consideration do you pay to your computer table and chair?

If you do not pay attention to these particulars too, you are surfing at top speed but you could be heading for a bad back and other physical issues at break-neck speed as well. If you work for a firm, these details are taken care of for you, or should be and if your boss does not take care of your posture, then the company could be liable for compensation. If you do not have a supervisor and work from home, it only makes sense that you take care of these particulars yourself.

If you take part in any of the activities mentioned in the first paragraph, you certainly should be taking an active interest in ergonomics, which is the study of the proper way to sit and how to use the proper equipment to help you to achieve the correct posture so that you do not subject your body to undue stress whilst you are working.

So, how do you go about acquiring the proper table or desk and the proper chair for you to do your work safely? Well, it is probably easiest to start with the chair. The correct chair for you will allow you to place your feet flat on the floor with your thighs parallel to the floor. You should be able to accomplish this position without balancing on the edge of your chair. If you require a foot stool to achieve this state, that is all right. The chair should have a back too. Some say there should be arm rests as well.

The table or desk should be of the height that will permit you to sit on your chair and put your elbows on the desk comfortably with a straight back. The height of the table should not encourage you to reach out or slouch.

Once you know how high your table and chair need to be, you can consider size. In general, the larger the table or desk the better. However, you know what you are like. Are you the type of person who clears the desk at the end of every day, or are you the sort that works until you cannot work any more and likes to leave books and papers open for a quick start the next day?

If you are the latter sort, then you require as large a desk as you can get, but you might just want a big desk because they are imposing. Whatever. It does not matter. A bigger desk is better anyway. The bigger the better, but it must be at the height that allows you to sit at it on a seat that suits the length of your calfs and the length of your abdomen.

How To Buy Cheap Garden Furniture

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

If you love being in your garden and want a set of garden furniture in order to take advantage of the lovely summer weather, it can be quite depressing when you go out to look at the prices of garden furniture, particularly if you are on a budget. And who is not on a budget these days? However, there is a way to obtain cheap garden furniture and still end up with something that you can be proud of.

I would like you to be very wary of lies. I have just finished reading an advert offering an ‘authentic teak (garden furniture) set’ that normally sells for about $4,500 for $29.97! Anybody who believes this sort of rubbish is a sad case indeed. Later on in the article, they admit that the wood is not teak, but is ‘constructed of hardwoods equivalent to teak’.

In fact, I would not believe that either. The writer has already told one lie and so is naturally deceitful. If ever you find a hole in someone’s advertising you should look elsewhere, especially on the Internet and especially if the shop is not in your town so that you cannot go and verify it.

Regrettably, there are lots of liars on the Internet and they are giving the honest merchants a bad reputation. Many of them live in poor countries that have little or no Internet or business regulation. Places like Eastern Europe, China, Africa, South America and South-Eastern Asia.

If the standard of English in the advert is poor, go elsewhere. It is a pity for the honest person who does not speak English well, but much safer for you. Another check would be to send the proprietor an email.

If they do not respond, give them a wide birth. If they do respond, check their Internet Provider’s (IP) address. The IP address is a group of four numbers and the first group gives the country of origin of the email.

Be very careful of offers that seem to be too good to be true. Rich people buy teak patio furniture at $4,500. Why do they pay that amount? Because the best teak furniture costs that much. How can rich people afford that much? Because they have decent jobs. How do they get decent jobs? Because they are not stupid. If you could buy genuine teak furniture for $29.97, they would buy it too.

So, if you can only afford to buy cheap garden furniture, buy the best quality plastic furniture that you can find and do not get sucked in by these conmen that are trying to trick you that you can have a top of the market hardwood garden furniture set for $30. You cannot; and never will be able to; and probably never have been able to either.
