A Short History Of Hybrid Cars

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

The first difficulty with working out which was the first hybrid vehicle, is deciding what the term ‘hybrid vehicle’ means. For instance, a barge being pulled by a horse with the current of the canal could be construed as a hybrid vehicle. However, most people these days will agree that a true hybrid vehicle utilizes a ‘rechargeable energy storage system’ or an RESS.

For example, this could define a vehicle that uses one form of propulsion, such as an internal combustion engine as its main form of propulsion, whilst that engine recharges batteries that can also be used to run an electric engine.

I am certain that it will surprise 90% + of people to hear that the history of hybrid vehicles is almost as long as the history of automobiles themselves. Porsche is a famous make of expensive sports cars, but in 1898 Ferdinand Porsche, a young Czech student, designed the Loher-Porsche one-cylinder internal combustion engine.

However, this engine was utilized to drive an electric generator, the electricity from which was used to power electric motors which were affixed to all of the four wheels. The petrol engine was used only to generate electricity for the electric motors in this early case.

This early hybrid was exhibited at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900 and was capable of travelling at 35 mph (56 kph). In 1901, Porsche drove it himself to win the Exelberg Rally. After this they sold more than 300 units of their early hybrid car. Mass production had not been invented yet and rich people were still sceptical about the new, malodorous technology.

1959 was the next landmark in the history or hybrids because petrol was not expensive and few people, if any, foresaw the future for the world and the environment. Anyway, the car invented, the Henney Kilowatt used the early transistors or those days to regulate the flow of electricity. This was the real precursor to modern hybrid cars.

One of the inventors of the Henney Kilowatt was Victor Wauk and he was involved in the process of experimenting with electric cars in the Sixties and Seventies. Sometimes, he is called the Godfather of Hybrid Vehicles.

It is fairly remarkable, but the regenerative braking system used by modern hybrids to help recharge a hybrid’s batteries was invented in 1978 by the electrical engineer, David Arthurs..

It then took until president Bill Clinton took the initiative to instigate the Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles in 1993. It involved the Dept of Energy, Chrysler, ford, GM and one or two others. G. W. Bush replaced this program with his own FreedomCar Initiative in 2001.

This initiative was designed to finance extraordinarily risky or problematic projects for the development of hybrid cars. It has taken us over 100 years to rejuvenate the initial hybrid idea but we only did that because we were compelled to do it.

The Advantages of Utilizing Spin-Ready Content for Traffic

Monday, August 15th, 2011

Targeted traffic is the key to profits from internet marketing. To increase your site’s traffic you need to employ multiple marketing techniques. Some of the tactics are easy to do, others you will learn in time, and one tactic, called article marketing, works great.

A great option for increasing your site’s traffic is by publishing articles on similar sites. This works in two ways, firstly it will bring your product to the attention of the right people, and secondly it will help create back links, which help you to rank better in search engines such as Google.

To get the most links you need to publish as many articles as possible on relevant sites, but these articles must be of good quality.

How can you possibly achieve this? By writing hundreds of unique articles by hand? Well that is one option you have, but by far the better option is to ’spin’ your articles.

You may be wondering what a spin ready article is. You begin with an original article and then randomly rearrange words or sentences to create a new unique article. Depending on what technique/tool is used to spin an article, you can get thousands of different variations for one original article.

One way to do this is by using a software tool. There are some problems encountered when using these tools to create spin ready articles. They can produce unclear articles because they simple take words out and replace them with synonyms. They don’t make much sense.

For top quality spin articles, you have to take advantage of those written by humans. Human-produced spin articles make sense and are correctly written, because a person who understands the language wrote them, not an automatic computer program.

Your search engine ranking will greatly increase if you are obtaining thousands of back links from all of the articles you have published.

It is also wise to keep your site updated with some of these spin ready articles so your customers are content and the search engine spiders are happy. This endeavor does, however, still require time and effort and you must find someone who is a good writer.

A brilliant software tool that has inbuilt spinning software as well as the capability to send your spun articles to blogs and directories is Senuke - get senuke here. It will ensure that your article marketing efforts are worthwhile and get you loads of quality back links. If you would like to read genuine senuke reviews before you buy, see our website!

Everything That You Should Know About Spinning Articles

Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

Everyone with a website knows targeted traffic is necessary to increase revenues. And to reach this goal and get your offer in front of an interested audience, you have to use certain marketing methods. Although there are many ways to do this, the most effective method is to write and distribute articles throughout the Internet.

This allows you to obtain multiple back links and reach and educate prospective customers about your products in a simple fashion. Search engines like Google base your site’s ranking on the number of back links your site has, along with some other criteria. So it goes something like this: The higher number of articles you publish on various sites, the more back links you have, and the more back links you create, the higher you rank. You can not just write anything however, the articles need to be of a high standard. So, how do you write a multitude of quality articles with little time and effort? The answer is ’spin articles’.

You are probably wondering what spin ready articles are. A spun article is created out of an original article by randomly moving around the words/sentences to get a new variation every time it’s spun. If you use the correct techniques you can get thousands of variations from one original article. There are now software tools available to spin articles. There are some problems encountered when using these tools to create spin ready articles. Since they use an in built method to swap synonyms and create a spun article, the result isn’t very readable. Sometimes the articles produced can be completely unreadable.

A better way to achieve the same goal is to use human written spin articles, which are created by real writers and not some piece of software. Humans will intelligently spin articles for you, making them unique but also coherent. These rewritten articles can help your marketing a lot. They can help you boost your search engine rankings in a big way, which is the biggest benefit you can get using them. This is because with a high number of rare articles on the internet, you create a high number of back links which is one key aspect to getting higher in search engines like Google. You could also publish these articles on your own site to keep your site constantly updated, which also helps your search engine rank.

If you want a high quality, well written article it can be a lot of time consuming work. Now there is help available to create spin ready articles for your marketing campaign called TheLeadingArticles.com

TheLeadingArticles.com is an article spinning service that delivers ultra spin able articles each and every day throughout the week, including weekends. Hybrid Cars

Sunday, June 19th, 2011

In essence, hybrid electric cars have two engines: a conventional petrol or diesel engine (the same as you would see in any contemporary car and an electric, battery powered engine, as you might see in a milk float or a forklift truck. The magical difference is that the car’s on board computer judges which engine is necessary to supply the power needed by the driver and switches it on.

Therefore, if you are accelerating to cruising speed for motorway driving; going up hill or overtaking, the car will probably use its liquid fuel engine but then as you ease off the accelerator to, say, cruise down the motorway; go down the other side of the hill or to drive in slow traffic, the computer will turn off the liquid fuel engine and turn on the electric engine.

The electric engine can be regarded as free to run, because it runs off batteries which are recharged by the car whilst it is using petrol or diesel and at some other times, such as while it is braking (and the alternators are recharging in both modes). You should never have to recharge your car’s batteries overnight as they do with forklift trucks.

There are in essence two types of hybrid cars: the semi hybrids and the full hybrids.

The semi hybrids have the same sort of set up: two engines, one running on liquid fuel and the other running on batteries, but the electric motor is not capable of running the car on its own. It is there to ‘assist’ the petrol or diesel engine.

In this type of hybrid, the electric motor is known as an ‘assist’. These semi hybrids will save money on fuel, but whilst the car is moving, you are burning fuel all the time.

The main difference when it comes to the full hybrid is that both engines are capable of powering the car autonomously. Whilst you are running on electricity, you are running at zero expense to your wallet and at zero expense to the environment, unless you are actually pushing the car and then both engines might be working in union.

This switching of power sources is done automatically without any interference from the driver. In the case of the Prius, for example, this extraordinary achievement is accomplished by what Ford calls its Hybrid Synergy Drive. Other companies have their equivalent to the HSD.

In order to gain the most out of these full hybrids, you really have to be doing an ‘average amount’ of driving under ‘average’ or ‘mixed’ circumstances. For instance, if you are driving in traffic, the car will try to use the electric engine, but if all you do is drive in inner city traffic jams the batteries will soon become depleted and you will be driving on liquid fuel all the time, which sort of negates the foremost reason for spending a great deal extra on a hybrid in the first place.

The car needs to travel on open motorways in order to recharge its batteries so that it can use them when it gets back into town. If you only drive in town traffic, you might be better off getting a small run about instead.

5 Pointers For Keeping Your Car Looking Fantastic

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

Most people love their cars or are at least very proud of them. Therefore, it makes sense to keep your car looking good by maintaining the bodywork, frequently known as the coachwork, and cleaning it regularly. In this article we will take a look at five tips for keeping your vehicle looking nice.

#1 - Scratches: scratches are the second worst thing for automobile owners. The worst are crashes, but people normally take care of those fairly swiftly. A driver has to treat scratches in the same manner. The reason why scratches are such an adversary is because they expose the bare metal and permit the ingress of water which will start corrosion.

There could be a slight scratch on the wing and you could imagine that it is not significant for months, but all the time the coachwork is corroding away. One day, you will wake up to blistered paintwork and ugly brown stains. Always treat scratches as soon as you see them, even if it is just to put some clear nail varnish on them until you can have them treated in the correct manner.

#2 - Elements: your car has been manufactured to withstand the elements, but it is best to protect it from them whenever you can. Therefore, garage your car if you can, or construct a car port for it and if you cannot do that, buy a car cover. The wind is constantly sand and grit blasting the paintwork and the sun is constantly attempting to bleach it. In fact, none of the elements are helpful for paintwork and nor is acidic bird droppings, so do not park under a tree.

#3 - Protection: in order to supply protection for your car whilst it is outside its garage, it is essential to give it a healthy coat of wax polish to filter the sun’s rays out and protect it from rain and wind-borne debris. This protective shell of wax will be blasted and washed off , so it is necessary to replace it every week or two, depending on the weather where you are. If you live near the sea, a protective coat of wax is even more vital because salt water will corrode metal far faster than fresh water.

#4 - Condition: always be on the look out for issues with your car’s paintwork. Be particularly watchful around joints, welds, folds, holes and bolts or screws. The paintwork is frequently disturbed at these points and that can lead to water ingress and corrosion.

#5 - Care: detail your car regularly. Either do it yourself or have it done. It is better to do it yourself, but if you have it done, tell them that you want to be made informed of any, even the most minor, issues with the paintwork.

If you follow these tips, your car will look a lot better for a lot longer and it will also maintain its value for longer, so in other words, maintaining your car will pay for itself in the long run.

How The NASCAR Starting Order Is Determined

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

All NASCAR races make use of NASCAR qualifying results to assist determine the starting positions of the vehicles in the race. However, it is not merely as simple as that because the starting positions are not only worked out by qualifying results.

Some starting positions are determined by previous results and a team?s standing, but in general, the qualifying results have the main impact on the starting positions of cars in a NASCAR race.

The starting positions for the qualifying races are determined by the luck of a draw or a sequence of draws. The order of the runs is from the lowest number to the highest with higher numbers having a slight advantage because the condition of the race track alters with use. The more frequently it is used the faster the track becomes.

The NASCAR teams send out their cars one at a time based on the numbers that they drew in the random draw. Each car is allowed a predetermined length of track to get up to speed and as it flies over the starting line it is given a green flag to indicate that the stop watch has been started.

Each sports car is allowed two laps to prove its speed; the faster time will be its entry into the qualifiers for the real starting positions. Drivers have different tactics for these two laps, but one common strategy is to make use of the outside lane of the track for the first lap.

This allows the sports car to travel more distance and therefore warm up more. The second lap can then be run along the fastest lines giving a lower qualifying time.

Another approach, albeit a less conventional one, is to forego the second lap because it reduces the strain on the car giving it a better chance in the final, actual race. This is a dangerous approach which not many drivers decide to undertake.

Qualifying results for NASCAR races are based exclusively on the length of time it takes to complete a lap. This obviously has to do with speed, but the actual top speed over a short distance is not taken into account.

If there is a tie for a place, times are compared down to 0.001 (one-thousandth) of a second. If there is still a tie, then the winner is the driver with the highest number of points in the season thus far.

The media tends to report racing results in miles per hour (MPH) which is certainly tracked, but it does not establish the winner. The winner is the one with the fastest lap time, which can also be converted into an overall speed.

Because the media report the results in this way, the general public has a tendency to think that the car reaching the highest MPH will be the winner, but that is false or at least not the whole story.

Sometimes the qualifying rounds have to be cancelled, most often due to very bad weather conditions, then the NASCAR qualifying positions are based on the owner?s previous amount of points.

How They Qualify For The Daytona 500 Races

Monday, April 25th, 2011

The Daytona 500 is money-wise the largest stock car racing event on the NASCAR racing calendar and it is also distinctive for the way that drivers have to qualify for a starting position in it.

The Daytona 500?s unique qualifying process was planned by the pioneer of NASCAR, Bill France, who also formulated most of the other rules and regulations governing the sport in the present day. He had two main objectives for changing the rules for the Daytona 500:

firstly, to boost income from the race because the site for the Daytona 500 is so expensive and secondly, to better prepare the drivers by making them have to meet the criteria under racing circumstances.

Bill France resolved to follow the standard set by other, shorter Daytona tracks, rather than use standard NASCAR qualifying two laps. He also determined to allow soft-tops and hardtops to take part in the Daytona 500 by putting them through a 100 mile qualifier which was to take place two days before the main race on the Sunday.

In 1969, the NASCAR authorities decided to move the qualifying races to the preceding Thursday and enlarged the qualifying distance from 100 miles to 125 miles. In 2005, this distance was again increased to 150 miles.

There has only ever been one year in the times past of the Daytona 500 when the qualifying races had to be cancelled and that was in 1968, over forty years ago.

One would anticipate the winner of the qualifiers to win the major event, but this is not usually the what happens. In 1962, the legendary Fireball Roberts achieved it and in 2004, so did Dale Earnhardt Jnr..

Nonetheless in the history of the Daytona 500, only eight drivers have had victory in both the qualifiers and the main event. The winner in the qualifiers has come second fourteen times, so if you want to gamble, that is a better bet.

Another interesting fact is that only once have the first and second places in the Daytona 500 gone to the winners of the two qualifiers. That occurred in 1995 with Sterling Marlin and Dale Earnhardt. In fact, things have not often gone well for the winners of the Daytona 500 qualifiers.

Thirty-eight qualifying winners have finished up in the thirty-first place or worse. The supreme misery however goes to Tony Stewart who is the only winner of a qualifying race in the history of Daytona 500 to have come in last in the actual Daytona 500 itself.

How Much Can A Truck Driver Earn?

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

Are you looking around for a new job? Or have you ever wondered how much a truck operator earns? If the adverts in the truckers’ magazines are to be believed, it is easy to get a driving job paying $100,000 a year as an owner driver.

This may be true, but it is certain that you can make a good living by owning and driving your own truck. There are several valid reasons for this. There is a worsening shortage of people who are prepared to drive long distances and stay away from home for a night or more and yet more goods are being imported and so have to be distributed from ports to distribution warehouses.

Many owner operators like the lifestyle of being their own boss and not having anyone breathing down their neck. Owner drivers often take their spouse or their dog on journeys with them and a modern cab is more like a small caravan that a car.

There are three main sorts of driving job available in the truck driving industry:

The first is the owner driver or owner operator. This type of operator owns his or her own tractor - the cab part that pulls the trailer. This driver is frequently contracted to a haulage firm and is paid per mile and is at least partially responsible for fuel and repair bills. It is normally the highest paying trucking alternative.

The second is the company operator. A company driver does not own his or her own truck and will normally get a wage based on hours or miles. A company operator typically does not have the same level of control over his wages that an owner driver has.

The third sort is the independent trucker. The independent trucker is fundamentally a mini haulage company. He or she has to find the loads, deliver them, make sure he gets paid, repair the wagon and everything else that a boss has to do, but without the corporate support and regular loads that an owner operator has from his haulage company.

If you are interested in this kind of business, the first thing you will need is a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) in the USA or Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) License in the UK.

Most truck operators attend a truck driving school where they will be given intensive training on how to drive a semi, as the tractor-cum-cab is called. Training will be given on driving and the written part of the state examination. After graduating from the driving school, you will be able to apply for your CDL or HGV.

On the other hand, you may be able to get in with a large haulage company that runs its own in-house training programme. This is better still as it may ensure you a job with that company for a while and that will help you establish a financial record should you want finance to buy your own vehicle later.

Once you are officially authorized, you can rely on your training school to help you find a job, you could phone around, look on the Internet or go and get one of those truckers’ magazines where they advertise jobs at $100,000 per annum.

Tips For Owner Truck Drivers To Save Money

Saturday, November 13th, 2010

Owner truck drivers have the same basic rights as any business owner, which means that they are permitted to deduct their operating costs from their earnings. The difference is in the detail. Every business works on the same essential guidelines, but within that framework, every kind of business is different.

A large proportion of non-business people do not understand how this works and to be honest, it does work differently in different countries. Here is a simple example: if you earn 400 and 100 is expenses and the tax rate is 25%, you will still pay tax: 400 earnings - 100 expenses = 300 profit x 25% tax rate = 75 tax.

Not as a lot of people think: 400 earnings x 25% tax rate = 100 tax - 100 expenses = zero tax.

With no expenses, the tax bill would have been: 400 earnings x 25% tax rate = 100 tax

Therefore, in this instance, you still need to pay for 75% of your expenses yourself. Obviously, the way to save money is to cut down on expenses. As we all know, this is easier said than done.

Since the truck is the largest single expense, you ought to begin there. Shopping around for the best deal is second nature when it comes to purchasing a vehicle, but it is even more important, when the vehicle is as expensive as a truck.

Regrettably, these are very hard times and many firms are going to the wall, but this does create opportunities to the owner-driver. There are tremendous deals on second-hand trucks, if you do your homework and have the truck thoroughly checked before you buy it.

You can off-set the interest you pay on the finance against profits, but you should definitely go for the best deal you can here as well. Try getting a better deal by bundling several insurances into one or try putting all your insurance policies with one broker for a higher discount. Or even do away with the broker (middleman) and go directly to the insurer.

Maintenance is cheaper than repair and it is deductible. It is also cheaper to take a number of common parts with you than be forced to rely on expensive emergency call-outs.

Fuel is a gigantic cost, so can you acquire a fuel card on the routes you drive? If not, pay for everything with a credit card that offers rewards, and pay off the card every month without fail. Pay by direct debit to make sure. Use it only for business.

Taking a shower can be expensive, up to $10 a time, twice a day. Having your own towel, soap and shampoo can bring this price down, but some garages offer free showers, if you buy a minimum volume of fuel or oil.

Eating healthily is also expensive on the road. This could make it a good strategy to install a refrigerator in your cab and fill it up where food is cheap and handy. Cutting down on fry-ups and steaks and eating more fruit would be healthier for most drivers anyway.
