If there is a tie for a place, times are compared down to 0.001 (one-thousandth) of a second. If there is still a tie, then the winner is the driver with the highest number of points in the season thus far.

The media tends to report racing results in miles per hour (MPH) which is certainly tracked, but it does not establish the winner. The winner is the one with the fastest lap time, which can also be converted into an overall speed.

Because the media report the results in this way, the general public has a tendency to think that the car reaching the highest MPH will be the winner, but that is false or at least not the whole story.

LED Lighting: Will They Replace Bulbs And Tubes?

LED stands for light emitting diode. LED’s are not new, they are the tiny red or green lights on the front of your stereo that tells you that the power is on. Some consoles have quite a few of them to show the state of preparation of the equipment. However, there is a new wave of interest in LED lighting by manufacturers. There is talk of LED’s being the future of lighting. In fact, there always has been these rumours about LED’s, but nothing ever seemed to come of it.

This renewed interest in LED lighting started in 2004 when vehicle manufacturers took another look at using LED lights in car headlamps. In 2008, Lexus produced the first ever car, the Lexus 600, with LED headlamps. These cars were exported all over the world except for North America. However, the 600’s headlamps were or are not true LED headlamps, the main beam is produced by filament bulbs.

The first authentic LED headlamps were fitted to the Audi V10 R8 sports car also in 2008 and the first American automobile was the Cadillac Esplanade Platinum in 2009. However, there is an innate issue with high power LED lighting, the rear of the diode produces a lot of heat. In fact, a cluster of high power LED’s produces sufficient heat to damage itself and melt the headlamp housing.

There are ways around this using heat sinks and cooling fans, but these solutions are not perfect, so technicians and scientists are still looking for ways to solve this problem. On the other hand, the front of the LED lights produces almost no heat at all, so if there is vapour in the headlamp unit and the ambient temperature is below freezing point, then ice crystals will form on the LED’s distorting and dampening the rays of light.

Nevertheless, scientists are confident that these teething problems will be overcome and that LED lights will one day be the most economical type of lights to use. In fact, it is already very economical to use and the LED lights units themselves last a long time. It is just the problem of overheating.

Other than their use in car headlamps, LED lights units can be seen in flashlights and in other parts of cars. Manufacturers are using LED lighting more and more often in brake lights, flashing indicator lights and hazard warning lights, because there is no problem at all with these fairly low powered LED lights.

LED lighting used to be either green or red, but now it is available in more colours. White and blue are common. The coloured lights that you see under some cars are another example of LED lighting. They serve the useful purpose of making the car of motorbike more highly visible. All right, that may not be why they were fitted, but nonetheless they increase the vehicles’ visibility.

Many more uses will be found for LED lights over the coming years. You will notice incandescent bulbs and even fluorescent tube lighting being phased out in favour of LED lights as the problems are surmounted, because LED lights is still in its infancy.

4] Either mix a bucket of warm soapy water or fix a soap dispenser to your hose pipe. It is worth investing in proper car cleaner, because kitchen detergent could be a little harsh for your car’s paintwork.

Do not try to save money on the amount of detergent you use, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations and apply it with a sponge or mitten. If you are using a bucket, be ready to change the water several times - you do not want to start rubbing grit into your paintwork.

Wash the car in sections starting with the roof and then rinse it off immediately. So, wash the roof, rinse it; wash a door panel, rinse it; move on and around your car until you get to the bottom - the bumpers and wheels.. You have to rinse instantly to stop a film of soap drying onto the paintwork, especially on a hot day.

Re-rinse the entire car in case you missed something. If you purchased a car wash with wax included, you are done, but if you would like the best finish, now is the time to wax on and then wax off.

The animal fat mixes with the human fat (say perspiration) and they dissolve into one another. The alkaline then breaks them down so that they can get borne away. You do this each day when you wash or take a shower.

The science of cleaning is quite a complex one when you start delving into it, but why certain products are just good for one type of job only becomes apparent once you do study it.

Never park under a tree because of this and because the rain dripping through the tree, especially in warm weather, will bring sap or oil from the tree and it is quite hard to get rid of when it is dry.

6] When washing the exterior with a bucket of soapy water, begin on the roof, the bonnet and the boot; change the water and do one side of the car, change the water and do the other. Never throw the left over dirty water in the bucket onto the car or its wheels. This water is filthy, but you often see people do it.

7] Clean the engine from time to time. You will be glad you did if ever you have to get under the bonnet. The same goes for the spare wheel and keep an old pair of gloves in the wheel well for when you have to change a wheel.
