Countless resorts now deliver pet-friendly suites, dog food on the resort menu, and also deep massages and other more luxurious comforts. However, regardless of many of these fresh lodgings, it can be difficult to get your pet back and forth from the desired destination, especially if you will be expected to take a flight.

When you fly with your furry friend, there will always be some price included. The charge may vary according to whether you fly with your pet under your chair or in the actual cargo hold. Furthermore, charges for flying with domestic pets have been recently raised by all main carriers. Believe it or not, it now is more expensive to fly with a pet than it does to have a child travel alone. Traveling with a pet could cost as much as several hundred dollars for a round trip ticket.

When traveling as cargo as well as checked baggage, your animal’s carrier should be of a certain size and can’t exceed a specific weight limit. Your transportable crate usually is required to possess firm walls and you must supply a water and food bowl and have an absorbent lining towards the bottom. Naturally you wouldn’t expect your beloved Labrador to get crowded into a kitty carrier but do bear in mind that most airline carriers require a certain amount of room for the pet to move around comfortably before permitting the carrier into the cargo hold.

Get the dog or cat well acquainted with the kennel it’s supposed to be voyaging in throughout the flight. This makes certain your pet isn’t restless when put in the airplane. It is usually good guidance for the owners to put some used bit of clothes inside the kennel to make them feel reassured.

Flying with a pet by means of aircraft may seem stressful for you and your puppy, or even out of the question. No worries, though, as many flights do make it easy for dogs and cats and present accommodations for them. The first task to take would be to ponder the pros as well as negative aspects of taking your furry friend with you. If it is a long term move for which you are taking a flight, the selection most likely comes down to whether you will ever see your pet again. If it is going to be a long vacation or business trip away from your pet but a new long-term pet sitter or caretaker can be arranged, flying with your dog may not be the best choice for you.

Understand the allure of all inclusive vacations and discover exactly why family vacations is definitely your perfect solution when it comes to relaxation and also fun.

Why I Moved To Thailand

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

After my first evening out in Pattaya, Thailand, when I met a lady on a blind date arranged by one of my best friends, I sat up in bed and I recalled the details of the night before. We had begun in The Pig and Whistle, where I was staying on Soi 7.

The Pig is a nice, quiet, tranquil, air-conditioned oasis of serenity in a street, which is one of the most raucous, noisiest and most crowded streets in Pattaya.

We ventured outside into the soi (lane) and into a torrent of people not dissimilar to that of a queue heading for a football match, except that all the women were dressed in skimpy clothes. We had called into one of those outdoor bars, where my friend had a surprise awaiting me.

His girlfriend of a time, whom I knew nothing of and a friend of hers who wished to meet up with me. The four of us had dallied there an hour before walking the thirty metres to Beach Road.

The traffic is one-way on Beach Road, so we took a Baht Taxi North (a pick-up truck) going with the flow and got off two or three kilometres further on just before Walking Street, which is the most famous street in Pattaya.

We had gone into a complex of bars and sat in one at random. It was only then that I realized that the bars were all set out surrounding a Muay Thai boxing ring, where the fighting was uninterrupted and free, although foreigners are expected to give a prize to the winner of each bout of 20-100 Baht ($1-$3).

We sat there an hour and moved on to Walking Street to have something to eat. We dined at a seafood specialist restaurant which has a pier or jetty as its dining region. The food was fantastic and the mood was romantic with the moon mirrored on the sea and the atmospheric lighting.

I don’t believe that I had a opportunity in reality, I fell for my beautiful date that night and I saw her each day for the remainder of my 30 days vacation. We had a magnificent time and when I had to go, I resolved to find out if I could settle in Thailand.

I went home and calculated, that if I was cautious and a few things fell in my favour, I would most likely have enough money to stay there for ten years.

Six weeks later, I went back to Thailand and Joy was waiting for me at the airport. Nothing had changed between us and we took a bus to visit her family in northern Thailand.

We slept in a room that her brother had given up for us and everyone made me feel very comfortable. Joy’s family live in a traditional teak house built on stilts and everyone lived and slept in one space in the traditional fashion, with the exception of Joy’s brother, who had built an extension, because he was eager to be married soon.

I really like that village and still live there now, seven years later. Joy and I are married and have our own home - a traditional, European, concrete-block bungalow not five metres from Joy’s mum, who is a brilliant mother-in-law.

Her family appear to understand what a big step it was for me to come here alone and are determined to be there for me, if I need help, like my own family in Britain would be. The job at hand is learning Thai as no one else in the village, except for my wife, speaks English.

Bitten By The Bug

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

Bed bugs are not a new social issue by any means. People have been complaining about them for centuries, although they were not active in every country at the same time. There were bed bugs around the Mediterranean Sea thousands of years ago, but they did not get to Britain until the Seventeenth Century and to America until slightly after that.

Bed bugs were virtually cleared out in Europe and America after the Second World War, but they flourished elsewhere, Now we have them back again all over the world, but it took them nearly 50 years to come back. People tend to become more appalled by bed bugs than by mosquitoes, although they do the same sort of thing.

Bed bug bites may or may not itch and are very unlikely to transmit infection, unlike mosquito bites. Yet still we hate them and still we are ashamed of having them in our dwellings. This is a strange phenomenon, because bed bugs cannot consume rubbish, because they do not have a real mouth. However, the rumour was created a hundred years ago that just poor people living in ghettos suffered from bed bugs.

It was a falsehood, but it stuck. In fact, people with money tend to travel more than poorer people, so they are more likely to pick up bed bugs and take them home to create their very own infestation. An infestation may cause some aenemia, but the real concerns are psychological, because people might not sleep for fear of being bitten and this can lead to paranoia..

Bed bug bites are usually in a line, but not always in a straight line. They may look like red spots a quarter of an inch in diameter. People react in different ways: some people react right away, others have a delayed reaction. Some marks might last four or five days, some might not show at all. Some may itch or swell up, others will not.

Your first treatment should be to shower as normal and wash with mild soap, but the number one rule is not to scratch the bite as that might cause an infection from dirty finger nails. If you have to treat the bite further, you can|could try these herbs and plants:

Plantain: some individuals claim that they obtained relief from itching by rubbing the leaves of plantain onto the bites.

Wet poultice: traditional remedies include smothering the bites with wet clay; mashed potato; bread and milk; wet arrow root; pulverized rice and water or ground grain and water. Create a pasty sauce of one of these, slop it onto the bites and tie a bandage around it until it is completely dry. This ought to draw out any irritants that the bed bug administered to make your blood flow liberally.

Fresh herbs may be used too, but you either have to chew them into a mulch (traditional) or you could crush them in a pestle and mortar with some water or spittle. Traditional herbs to use are::wild geranium (Geranium maculatum); comfrey (Symphytum uplandica x); yellow dock (Rumex species); wild mallow (Malva neglecta) or chickweed (Stellaria media).

How To Make Your Vacation Perfect

Friday, November 4th, 2011

Just about everyone today lives a hectic life. The constant pressure of delivering on time and delivering quality work puts undue stress on us. In such an environment, a vacation can help us rejuvenate ourselves and get back to our best.

However, it is simply not possible to go for a vacation every month. You need to plan your vacation and prepare for it well in advance. This way, you won’t have too many things to take care of when you reach your actual destination.

In this article, we’ll explore a few tips that can make your vacation infinitely better -

To start with, find out as much as possible about the place you’re going to visit. You can then prioritize the places you want to visit first and how you want the entire trip to go. This will also help you book your accommodation among other things.

When you’re looking at the accomodation options, try to be as close to the center of the city as possible. For this, you may turn to the Internet and look for hotels near the center. Let’s say you are going to visit Wales. Holiday cottages in Wales are a great option.

You’d find many all inclusive travel packages too. What this means is that if you’re going to Wales, the travel package will cover all the costs; be it the costs of holiday cottages Wales, your food or your transportation. In my opinion, though choosing an all inclusive travel package is very convenient, it is generally a lot better to do all the planning yourself. It is a lot more fun too. You aren’t limited by ‘x’ number of days, or ‘x’ number of cities.

Make sure all the required documents are with you before you leave. I can’t stress enough on the importance of keeping your documents with you. It can be helpful to know the rules of the place that you’re going to visit.

If possible, the best thing would be to prepare a to-do list at least two-three weeks before your date of departure. You can prepare a comprehensive list and then check them off as things are completed. This will help you remember everything and prepare a lot better.

Having said all that, don’t forget that you’re there to make the best use of your time. It is often seen that people get caught up in the details and don’t really get the time to enjoy themselves.

Need a lot more such travel tips? Our website gives you these plus facts about holiday cottages in Wales. Holiday cottages Wales are the ideal accommodation whenever you visit Wales. Read more about them on our website!

Controlling Mosquitoes

Tuesday, July 12th, 2011

Mosquito is a familiar insect which belongs to the family Culicidae. The word mosquito is of Spanish and Portuguese origin which translates as ?little fly?. A mosquito passes through four phases in its life cycle i.e. egg, larva, pupa and adult. The fully developed mosquito is also called an imago. Eggs are laid by adult females in still water like puddles, lakes, ponds, or containers etc.

The life of an grown-up mosquito is four-eight weeks long. The mouthparts of mosquitoes are adapted to pierce the skin of animals and plants. Males feed on nectar and the juices of plants whilst the females need to feed on blood to obtain nutrients in order to lay eggs. More than 3,500 species of mosquitoes are to be found in the world.

The females of some species feed on humans and are the cause of many contagious illnesses. Egg development and blood digestion are two very important activities in the life of female mosquitoes. They serve as a vector to transmit viruses and parasites from one individual to another.

Mosquito control is vital for getting rid of harmful mosquitoes and the illnesses spread by them. It is estimated that mosquitoes spread diseases to over 700 million individuals in Asia, Africa, Mexico, Central America and South America. Numerous deaths are the result of infectious illnesses brought about by the bites of mosquitoes.

When mosquito control was less widespread, thousands of deaths were caused each year. Malaria and yellow fever were known to be caused by mosquito bites. WestNile fever is also borne by mosquitoes. Dengue disease and Encephalitis are other infectious diseases brought about by mosquitoes.

Natural enemies of mosquitoes include the dragonfly which assists control the population of mosquitoes by eating them. The reaction to the bites of mosquitoes can be instantaneous or delayed. The irritation on the bites is the result of an immunity response.

Several anti-itch medicines are obtainable on the market. Some medications are taken orally while others are for external use only. Itching can be minimized by applying an adhesive tape to the area of the bite or by sucking on the region through a straw.

A very effectual anti-inflammatory agent is Tea tree oil, which lessens itching. Insecticides may also be used to eradicate the larvae of the mosquito. Source reduction is a very efficient way to control mosquitoes by removing stagnant water. Biocontrol is another remedy by which natural enemies of mosquitoes are used to manage their population.

Chemical pesticides will kill adult mosquitoes because they are the most harmful from the point of view of spreading disease. DDT was used for the control of mosquitoes on a big scale but now it?s use is banned in some countries. Different sorts of repellents are used to deter mosquitoes from attacking. DEET is used as an good repellent.

Picaridin and IR3535 are also very widely used CDC-recommended repellents. Oil of Eucalyptus is a natural repellent and it is highly recommended. It is very important to take safety precautions to protect yourself from the contagious illnesses borne by mosquitoes.

Pet Friendly Rentals

Saturday, July 9th, 2011

The majority of people really love their pets, to the point where they become part of the family. Some pet owners cannot bear to be parted from their pets for more than a day or so and for these people, going on holiday can be a problem, because they do not want to leave their friends behind. Clearly the answer is to take your cat or dog with you. Dogs are easier to take away than cats, because they are more well-trained

If you are only going for a few days, say on business, finding a hotel near to the location of your meeting should not be too much of a problem, unless you want to stay at one of the big names in the city centre. It is often the smaller, family-run hotels or guest houses that consent to pets, although some want you to keep your dog in a kennel on the premises overnight. larger hotels tend not to be very pet-friendly.

If you propose taking your pet with you, it is better if you make this clear when you make your booking as more hotels do not allow pets than do allow them. Normally there is no extra charge for a pet, but you are responsible for any extra cleaning bills, should your pet get caught short.

If you are going away on holiday or for a longer period of time, it is usually a lot easier to find a holiday rental that will allow you to take your cat or dog with you. Again, it is wisest to make it obvious at booking that you want to take your dog with you. Luckily, there are about fifty percent of rentals or more that will permit this, although once again, you will be held responsible for any damage or mess caused by your dog.

A tip: if on getting there, you see that previous pets have caused some damage or stains, take photographs on your first day and have them dated. Modern cameras often have the facility to date stamp photos or you can use a newspaper. Otherwise, point out the damage to your host.

When you travel with your dog, it is best to put the animal in some sort of a cage particularly when driving. A loving dog can be a diversion in a car. If it wants attention just when you are trying to perform a complicated manouevre, it can cause an accident. Some dogs get very frightened in cars and want to sit on their owner’s lap, this is also not a good idea and could lead to a charge of dangerous driving. Additionally, if your dog is not caged and you have an accident, it could be thrown through the windscreen. If you are travelling by air, then the airline will insist on a cage, but they usually have their own.

Once you arrive at your pet-friendly rental, give your dog some of his regular food to eat, lay out his blanket from home, and put out one of his favourite toys, just to help make him feel at home. After all, everything will be strange to him and he might be able to smell the previous furry tenant. If cleaning staff will be going into your rental during your vacation, make sure that you are there at least for the first few times they call.

Picturesque Inland Beach Cottage Rentals

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

When many people, singles and families alike, think about booking a holiday, many of them would only think about going to the beach for a two week’s lounging on the beach under the sun and swimming in warm, azure sea.

However, many of the best, most famous beach locations are magnets for crowds of people. It appears that most people like the sand, the sea and the sun. Now some people go to these places precisely because they are full of activity. They like the crowds and the night clubs that attract them. Mainly singles go to these types of destinations and a holiday affair is not far from many peoples’ minds.

Couples and older people may prefer a little less noise, pollution and bustle. However, there are beaches which meet these requirements too. Often they are private beaches. Some have hotels on them but some do not. Those that do not often have inland beach cottage rental properties instead. These are virtually always self-catering.

When most people think of a beach it is instinctively connected with the sea. However, this need not inevitably be so. There are also inland beaches on lakes and rivers. These beaches are usually referred to as inland beaches. Accommodation can be a problem with even some of the best inland beaches.

Many of these inland beaches are simply not well-known enough to make a hotel commercially viable, but some of them have cottage rentals instead. These cottages, or cabins sometimes, can be difficult to find if you do not reserve early enough. They are usually complete homes, fully equipped with all the household facilities you have grown used to: a fully furnished living room, multiple bedrooms, bathrooms, and a modern kitchen.

Inland beach cottage rentals are popular because they are usually situated right on the water’s edge. This makes the bit of beach right before your cottage your private beach. You can sleep on it at night if it’s hot, lie there all day or set up a few fishing lines.

In the evenings, you can hitch up with neighbours to have a party or keep yourself to yourself. For this reason, it is a good idea to check photos of the cottage before you make a booking.

If an inland beach cottage rental sounds right for you, there are thousands to pick from in the United States and Canada. The Great Lakes are a particularly beautiful place to go. There are excellent spots in the Finger Lakes region of New York state and along Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.

You will not regret going on holiday to an inland beach cottage rental property. There are so many variations that there is certainly something for every pocket and every family size. Singles are not so well catered for, but if you want a quiet holiday alone. maybe to study, then this might fitting be for you too.

You can fly into some of these resorts by seaplane, but it is more probable that you will take your own car or a rental car, if you want to get out and do some exploring further afield. Personally, I would rather rent a boat.

What Is The Low Down On Bed Bugs?

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Most people under seventy years of age in the West will not have seen bed bugs. This is mainly due to enhanced living conditions, DDT and better public education. The DDT was used in the thirties and forties and eradicated the problem in the more wealthy countries.

Bed bugs are a member of the arachnid or spider family, although bed bugs are parasites that suck blood, not all bodily fluids. They will feed on most warm-blooded animals and there is some proof that humans are not their first preference of prey.

The most common form of bed bugs are known as Cimex lectularius by their Latin name. They are quite small but very fast moving insects and they are members of the spider family, although many of them do not look like spiders at all. Rather, most of them look like little beetles, until they have satiated themselves, after which they can hardly move and are at their most vulnerable.

Bed bugs feed in a similar way to mosquitoes. They insert a tube into the skin of its victim and suck blood out. It is not a great deal to you, about a quarter of a millilitre, but is a lot to them. It allows them to live and procreate.

Bed bugs, unlike their relatives the ticks, are not known to convey any diseases. In fact, they are one of the few insects that do not pass on a disease.

A bedbug bite is similar to an ant bite in appearance, but it will itch like a mosquito bite. You will probably experience a slight swelling with a red dot in the centre and an itch. Not much more.

You can check for bed bugs quite easily by soaking a bar of soap in a little water for half an hour while you lie on your bed reading a book. Then get up and fetch the soap, wet-side down and fling back the bed clothes. Dab up the bed bugs, if there are any with the soft soap. This is a fast way of getting rid of a small number of bed bugs, but cannot be considered as a solution.

With regards to the annihilation of an infestation of bed bugs, it depends where you are. If you are in a hotel, the bar of soap will be proof enough of a problem and it is the hotel manager’s duty to provide a solution. If they do nothing, report the hotel to the local tourist bureau.

If you live in rented accommodation, it is your landlord’s responsibility to solve the predicament. If he or she is disinclined, then go to the council hall and seek advice.

If the issue is in your own house, then take the skirting boards and architraves off. Spray or paint very powerful insecticide onto the wall and refit the woodwork. If you are still worried, seal the woodwork off on all sides with mastic or silicone.

These actions will ensure that your house will be free of bed bugs.

Travelling By Train

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

During the last ten years there has been a return to train travel, especially in the United States. This might have something to do with nostalgia and romance, but most experts put it down to a consequence of the in-flight bombing of Twin Towers on 9/11/2001.

The government’s and the airlines’ reaction to those acts of terrorism have resulted in enormous hikes in the degree of security at airports and quite rightly so, but travellers are also put off by the long queues and intrusive searches at airports. This difficulty is even worse at busy airports and during vacation periods such as whilst schools are off.

Car travel is also an alternative, but then you have to do your own driving and that brings its own worries, especially if you are with children and especially if you are a sole parent. Apart from that, travelling by train is a holiday in its own right. Your vacation starts the moment you placed your bags in the rack and find your seat.

Once you have sat down, given the kids a colouring book and a can of soda, you can sit back, relax and just snooze or look out of the window at the scenery whizzing past. Most of your worries are over until you arrive at where you are going. Your kids cannot become lost or wander off and they are very safe from predators.

Moreover, trains seats are normally much more spacious than comparable airline seats. Economy seats in a train are much more comfortable than economy seats in an airplane. You can also get up and walk about which makes long journeys much more comfortable.

The vista is also better from a train than a plane. After all, clouds are clouds are clouds, but you can see all sorts of things out of the window of a train. There are also sleeping and dining carriages to break up the trip, but there is usually also attendant service in your seat, if that is what you want. Simply push the button and someone will come to take your order.

Have you heard of the Orient Express, the Flying Scotsman or the Trans-Siberian Express? What romantic visions they summon up. Modern trains might not have the nostalgia or the steam trains of the Thirties, but they are still fantastic to travel on.

You can book your seats on a train trip much the same as you would on a plane, which means that if you stand up to go to the toilet or dining carriage, your seat will still be vacant when you return. This is a huge plus factor, because it is maddening if someone takes your seat.

The next time that you decide to go away, re-evaluate going by train. You can leave your car at the station or you can even take it with you on the train, if you like. You will not regret having given the rail network a chance, because the likelihood are that you have forgotten how handy and inexpensive they are.

Owen Jones, the author of this article, writes on a lot of topics, but is presently involved with American Flyer train sets. If you would like to know more about train sets for kids, please go over to our website for some great offers.
