Road Dates

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

It’s that time of year, when love is in the air and you get that warm and cozy feeling inside, no, not Spring, but something much more sinister then that. We are talking about Valentine’s Day. That dreaded time of year when men must do things like pick out cards and buy flowers and singles, well, they just get the raw end of the deal all together. That being said, the first thing you need to do is get your car in order. Let’s take a look at some good romantic cars.

Are first choice for car romance would be the great, anamorphic, Volkswagon Beetle Herbie, aptly called The Love Bug. The original Love Bug movie was filmed by Disney in 1968 and has produced a total of four movies (one in 2005 with Lindsay Lohan) a made for TV movie and even its own TV show. In theory, Herbie was called the Love Bug because he actively conspired to bring the movies lead actor into a romance with the lead actress. Funny, right? However, we think it is also because America as a whole fell in love with this car as the Love Bug movie was a smash hit in the box office. Is a VW Beetle romantic? More like cute, but it could work under the right circumstances.

How about a truck for romance? Before you laugh think about it. First of all, it is pretty common for a girl to sit in the middle seat, right next to her special somebody, and leave the passenger seat open. Sweet isn’t it? But there is more. If you clear the beer cans out of the back you can use it for some creative dating. Pack a picnic, some camping gear and using the trucks off road capabilities, head off into the mountains for a getaway. Best of all, lay in the back of the bed at night and watch the shooting stars cross the sky. Laugh now, but she will love it.

Maybe you want something less country. How about a motorcycle? It has attitude and an element of danger, and let’s face it, girls love that stuff. Best of all, if you ride it together, she has to put her arms around you and hold you tight. Not a bad deal at all.

For you old school romantic types how about a classic car? Sure they are probably pricey or it will take a lot of fixing up, but a classic Ford or Chevy from the 50’s practically screams “date me, I’m chivalrous.” A vintage Chevy Bel Air or Ford Thunderbird has class and nostalgic romance all rolled into one. Drive to the beach, get a burger and shake and watch the sun set. There you go, the car can only get you started, now it’s up to you.

How To Research Motorcycle Insurance Rates

Friday, January 20th, 2012

It is very important to know how to research motorcycle insurance or else one will pay more than necessary for his cycle coverage. Although is not easy to find cheap rates, affordable plans are available. The person who exercises diligence and determination will find an affordable plan that properly suits his riding needs. The person who rides a motor bike need not be discriminated against simply because he rides a high risk vehicle.

Premiums are determined, in large part, on what insurers consider the risk factors. Riders who travel a busy city street are higher risks, in the insurer’s opinion, than those who ride in uncrowded rural areas. But, here is how anyone can save money on their monthly premiums.

Save money on coverage by buying a less powerful bike. People who own large powerful bikes should expect to pay more for coverage because insurers view large powerful bikes as more dangerous. A cruiser is considered safer by insurers than large powerful two wheeled vehicles such as the powerful monster cycle that sets off car alarms when it races by. Consider increasing the deductible.

When the deductible increases so does the risk, but there will be an immediate savings up front on the premium costs which saves money in the long term, but this should be a decision made after consideration is given. This is because if one is involved in an accident, one will have to pay more for cycle repairs and for medical bills, if any, if the deductible is raised. But, raising the deductible is an easy way to bring down premium costs.

Refrain from taking out more coverage than is needed, but keep in mind that some jurisdictions require a minimum amount of liability coverage, so check with the local authority to make sure the policy meets that standard. Some insurers offer discounts on bundle plans. A bundle plan refers to a plan where a policy holder insures multiple vehicles with the same agency and thereby receives a lower rate than if he insured only a single vehicle.

Take a rider’s safety course and become certified. Some insurers offer discounts to riders who take safety classes because they demonstrate an interest in highway safety. Keep a clean driving record because a single traffic infraction will substantially increase one’s premiums.

Learn how to research motorcycle insurance plans in order to find the least expensive cycle coverage. It is possible to find adequate coverage at a discount. Consider raising the deductible, consider trading in that monster cycle for a cruiser, and keep that driving record clean.

Insurance is a huge monthly expense so taking a little time to get good cheap insurance motorcycle is well worth the effort. Cheap motorcycle insurance quotes are out there, and it won’t take you long to find them.

Amazing Parade of Super Cars

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

Want to see some of the most expensive and exotic cars around? If you head to London during the summer months you will be sure to get a close look at some of the world’s most expensive super cars. Cars like Bentley and Rolls Royce are common sights. The cars are shipped over mostly from the UAE at a cost of around $15k each way. The owners like to bring their cars with them when they vacation.

All of the license plates are Arabic; Arab billionaires like to spend their summers’ in England in order to avoid the intense heat and fly their super cars over in private planes. As if an exotic car by itself were not eye catching enough, many of these hyper cars have been painted in bright colors for even more attention such as hot pink, baby blue and even pure chrome and gold. London has surpassed Monte Carlo and Monaco as the exotic car capital of the world. Even though these cars can easily reach speeds of over 200 mph, many end up being driven in first gear due to gridlock traffic.

Most of the drivers are polite but some rev their motors and speed which may aggravate residents. The foreign license plates make it rather difficult for the cops to issue tickets to drivers when they break traffic laws. Even royalty isn’t above the law in England; the royal Qatari family received fines. Both of their autos were clamped and ticketed for parking illegally in front of Harrod’s, an exclusive department store that the family owns.

So who do these cars belong to? Some are businessmen while others are members of various royal families. The majority of cars are from the UAE and a Qatar while a few are from other Middle Eastern countries including Iraq.

Understandably, some local residents are upset due to the fanfare and constant revving of the motors. These cars are loud and you can hear them cruise down the streets at all hours. Our used cars include the used subaru outback glendale at Galpin Subaru located in the city of Los Angeles

Classic Shipping for Classic Cars

Saturday, January 7th, 2012

At great expense you have finally customized that Classic Bentley and have taken it gingerly on the road to show it off to all the world. Or perhaps it’s that vintage Silver Shadow. But now you have to ship that precious and unique classic auto, and you have no idea how to go about it. You certainly don’t want to drive that rolling money pit thousands of miles away yourself, and teleporting isn’t here yet.

Fortunately for you there are plenty of auto shipping companies ready and waiting to pick up you gem and ship it off to wherever it needs to go. Your car that you love so much will be guaranteed to show up at its new home in one piece and as beautiful as the day it left your driveway.

You want to find a carrier with experience. It is not likely that you have been in this situation before, so you and even your acquaintances won’t immediately know of any reliable shipping companies. You need to either go online or locate a professional broker. Most companies will have a website, whether old and established or new and vigorous.

Like anything else, it’s best to shop around to find the best deal. You also need to make sure that you fully understand all of the terms and conditions that the carrier works under. Make sure that they understand that your automobile is not just a run of the mill car off of the lot. It’s important that the shipping company knows that your car is a custom one of a kind car and that they can cover it under their insurance.

If you choose to go with an open carrier to ship your car, make sure that you are guaranteed a top spot on the truck. Cars on the bottom are more susceptible to the top cars dripping fluid on them, rocks, vandals, and other hazards. The down side is that the top cars will be more exposed to harsh weather such as hale.

Ideally, you will choose a carrier with a closed trailer and one who is able to ship it immediately to its destination with no layovers in either their garage or some other company’s. This may cost you because you are asking that the carrier leave immediately without waiting for its usual minimal load before it takes off. If you don’t do this however, the company will take your car to a storage lot to await more traveling companions, thus increasing the odds of theft and bodily harm.

You will of course not add to the shipment any of your personal belongs for transport. It is a good idea to remove all customizations that can be taken off the vehicle and those that cannot, should be thoroughly documented.

Unnecessary fuel is a hazard: leave only enough fuel to get the car to the carrier and off it at destination. This extra fuel adds weight to the load and increases the cost to you.

Before you and your car part company, go over it with a fine tooth comb and note in writing even the smallest of dings, if any. And of course, after washing the beauty, on a clear day, take pictures from all angles with a digital camera and date them.

More Toys for Boys

If you were a kid and didn’t have Hot Wheels (what’s wrong with you?) then you most certainly had a Matchbox car. The Matchbox name started as a brand name for the British owned die-cast toy manufacturer Lesney Products. Before Matchbox car there biggest sales success was a replica of Queen Elizabeth’s II coronation coach which sold a million models.

The modern Matchbox car was created in the 1950’s by Jack Odell. His daughter could only take toys to school that could fit into a matchbox. So it was he set out to design a car that could do just that and it wasn’t before long that the Matchbox cars came into existence. Their clever packaging and affordability made them an instant hit with kids everywhere. They were so popular that the term “Matchbox” became a catch phrase for all small cars of a similar type even to this day.

Lesney was founded by Jack Odell, Leslie Smith and Rodney Smith, who combined names to make Lesney. In the 1950’s British die cast toys were very popular, namely Dinky, Corgi and Matchbox. They each had their own niche markets and most of their products were successful. Among toy collectors this period is known as the “Golden Era” of British die cast toys.

The very first series of cars was called the 1-75. As time went by, Lesney attempted to expand their markets new series of cars. One of these was the Models of Yesteryear, a remake of classics from the early age of automobiles. Other additions were the Major Packs, large scale construction vehicles, and the King Sized series, which was a larger scale truck and tractor set. In 1968 Matchbox was at the top of its game and nobody else came close. That is until Mattel invented the Hot Wheels, with their revolutionary low friction, high speed “race” wheels. The Hot Wheels were painted bright, metallic colors and had fancy mag wheels on slick designs. It was a nightmare for Matchbox as their U.S. market collapsed.

Scrambling to come up with their own answer to Hot Wheels, Matchbox came out with the “Superfast” series and sold play sets as well. While these cars were in production, Matchbox redesigned their cars and retooled their machines to match the scale and width of Hot Wheels. By the early 1970’s they were back in business challenging the Hot Wheels supremacy

England was suffering from financial difficulties during the 1980’s and so Matchbox was sold to Universal Toys. In 1992 Universal was bought out by Tyco Toys, who continued to produce the cars. In 1997 disaster struck and Mattel bought out Tyco. There had always been a fierce competition between collectors of each brand and Matchbox fans feared Mattel would change the way they were made. However, Mattel had no intention of changing things and continues to produce Matchbox cars the way they have always been done. Much to collectors delight.

Electrical Safety Tips

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

The accidents related to electricity are the result of electrocution. Electrocution can result in: minor shocks, which can result in other accidents like falls; medium shocks, which can cause burns and even severe burns and major shocks which can result in death in the same way as in some American prisons.

The victim can receive an electric shock by coming into contact with a live wire or by the electricity from a live source arcing out - essentially finding earth through that person’s body. The majority of electric shocks are not serious and are over before you know that it has happened but they are scary afterwards.

A fall resulting from a mild electric shock probably has greater potential to be fatal than the shock itself. For example, if you were changing a light bulb from a chair and you reckoned that the power was off, yet it was not, you might receive a short sharp shock, and it could make you to fall off the ladder and break your neck.

On the other hand, high voltage electric shocks can result in burns deep in human tissue whilst leaving just minor signs of the injury on the outside. It is very important not to get complacent about electricity, because, like the open sea, it does not suffer fools gladly. Here are a couple of electrical safety tips to help keep you safe.

1] Always inspect power tools for damage and broken plugs or frayed cords before use. You may have damaged it last time you used it yet got away with it that time

2] If you are working in the same room as others, particularly on a building site, do not leave your leads running across the floor - try to tape them to a wall or a bench, because workers may step on them, run wheel barrows over them or spill water on them.

3] Always use the correct gauge cable and fuse for your apparatus.

4] If anything becomes warm while you are using it, be aware that it might be a sign of an approaching problem. Leave warm apparatus or sockets to cool down, if it occurs again, get them checked by an electrician. Do not over load electrical sockets.

5] Strive to use a dry wooden ladder if you are working near cables, because wood does not conduct electricity.

6] If you are using any apparatus that produces heat or strong light, do not direct it on anything that could catch fire.

7] Fit fast-reacting circuit breakers between your equipment and the source of electricity to minimize the shock that you might get. These devices detect a faulty earth and switch the appliance off in milliseconds.

If your appliance or electrical equipment has a button for testing the earth, use it every day and if you are going to work on a light socket, an electrical socket or the fuse box, test it first with one of those electrical screwdrivers with a small bulb in it. You poke it into the circuitry and the bulb lights up, you have just had a narrow escape. Be more careful next time!

Tired Out

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

(We now continue with part 2 of our award winning series…”to fix a flat”…)

Be sure to leave room for the new tire when you jack up the car. Then you are ready for e hardest part: Taking of the lug nuts. There are a couple types of lug wrenches, grab whichever you have. One has one socket, another one has four. The four way wrench is the best, because you may not know what sized socket you need plus the 4 way provides great leverage when taking of the nuts.

You usually have five lug nuts. Place the socket onto a lug nut and turn it counter clock wise. This is by far the most difficult part. The nuts can be on really tight and it can take a good bit of strength to loosen them. If they were put on by an electric wrench they can be very difficult to turn. Other factors, such as cold weather, can make them tighter as well.

You don’t want to put too much pressure on the screws so loosen a nut but do not take it all the way off. Just loosen it just enough to release some pressure so that it turns easily. Now move to the opposite screw across from the one you just did. Loosen it like the other. Then move across to another one and loosen it. Keep going back and forth loosening them all until they are all done. Now you can finish unscrewing them all the way.

Take all the nuts off. It is VERY important to keep track of where all the nuts are. They can be easy to lose and you need them all for the spare. Pull the flat tire off and set it somewhere to the side for now. Take the spare tire and line it up with the screws. The holes should be facing inwards, not outwards. Slide the spare onto the screws.

Now you will put the nuts back on the same way you took them off. Screw one on till there is a slight bit of pressure on the tire. Then place the nut across from it on and turn until there is pressure as well, then the next across from it. Keep going until all the nuts are on but not tight. Now you can tighten them.

Tighten them as much as you can with the wrench and go back over them again to make sure they are on good. You definitely don’t want them coming loose while driving. Once you are sure they are tight enough. Make sure nothing is under the car and release the handle on the jack or crank it in the opposite direction to lower it. Put all of your stuff back in the truck. When you get in your car don’t forget to turn off your hazards and remember to RELEASE the emergency break as well. Once you start the car you will probably want to drive to some place you can wash your hands. Otherwise, go brag to your friends that you changed a tire all by yourself.

How Would You Like to Ride a Motorbike to School? Article 82.75

Friday, November 4th, 2011

Do you love thinking about riding a motorcycle, but they’re a little too big and powerful, or maybe too expensive? Have you thought about an electrical motorbike? For one thing, a scooter is really simple to operate, and also extremely easy on your wallet. A lot of parents consider a motorbike too dangerous for a teenager, and many also feel it’s just a little too big a step to get him or her their own car.

Scooters are less costly than a motorcycle, and are generally easier to run, but safety is still a necessity, and you still must follow the rules. Many folks consider a scooter really an upgraded bike than a downgraded automobile. In fact, in several states to drive a scooter you need to be licensed with a motorcycle license. With respect to the state, kids will almost certainly be legal age to operate a motor scooter.

With scooters (also referred to as mopeds by some people), tend to be favorable to the environment and cause absolutely no pollution. Their similarities to motorcycles consist of turn blinkers, brakes, two tires and a seat.

Finding out how to ride a moped is a lot easier, but don’t expect to take off with the same speed. They aren’t meant for freeway traveling, but mainly for riding around town. A great deal less than a motorcycle, a scooter will simply put you out anywhere from a couple hundred bucks to a grand or so. You will want to invest a fair amount of time shopping for just the right one, since scooters come in all kinds of styles and colors. Due to the weight difference, women prefer riding a motor scooter. A lot of scooters are designed to be ridden while seated, you’ll find those that are designed for standing up; you know which you prefer.

Younger boys and girls appear to like the stand up type, but eventually it would be nice to sit down. Plus, if you need to carry any packages, there’s very little way to do so with a stand up scooter. In terms of upkeep and repairs, an electric scooter calls for far less effort and you can do it yourself. They are very efficient, getting around 60 miles to the gallon of gas, depending on the model. As I have said, electric scooters are very light and take up very little space. They can be great for a collegian needing some way to get around. They might even be ridden around campus, and parked in bike racks. It’s possible to gain up to 30 mph with a scooter, which will work for quick trips to town. Hopefully, just as with so many other aspects regarding Biomedical engineering programs, you will need to pay more attention to some things than others. However, the bottom line is how you want to use it, and how much of it will impact your situation. We really are just getting going here, and hopefully you will be thrilled about what more is in store. The last half of the article will offer you more solid info about this. We think you will find them highly pertinent to your overall goals, plus there is even more.

Scooters’ popularity continues to soar, especially where the weather is good most of the year, and fuel costs are high. If you’re not concerned with high speeds or long distances, a scooter might be just the thing for you.

Had enough with failing to biomedical engineering school although you have tried so hard? Right, a lot of people only have difficulties and never get what they really want. If you are weary of having how to become a medical assistant as a constant companion… well then.
